Pete Versus Life - Series 1 Page 5

I was thinking about being in a situation where somebody bought it for me as a present and I had to pretend to watch it......

(I'd say more, but I think I'll try and sell that idea to the writers for their inevitable second series....though I'll have to add some 'third rate Peep Show sexual embarrassment', obviously)

No such thing as inevitable second series anymore, I thought Plus One would get a second series

The second episode was pretty funny. Feels like they need to flesh out some of the other characters more though, so they can have more impact and contribute more to the story. What, for example, does Pete's friend, who he had to get trainers for this week, add to the show? What sort of character is he supposed to be other than 'Pete's mate'?

Still, the first two episodes have been enjoyable.

I think he's just someone to be on his side. Like the fat guy in Curb.

It can get a bit frustrating when everyone hates/doesn't understand the main character.

I like this show but I do think Rafe Spall has been at the Robin Askwith tablets a bit.

But the fat guy in Curb (JEFF) has character and is funny; this guy has nothing.

The other characters are little more than ciphers. They're wafer thin. It's a fun show but I'm struggling to remember anyone in it other than Pete. And even he's a bit bland.

What's the deal with the South African room mate, too? Why is he there if not to be used?

Is he the bloke that played the gay teacher in Waterloo Road?

If only we still had that expert to ask...

Only other character I recall, other than the commentators Terry and Colin obviously, was that girl called Mexico. Can't recall why she was called it though.

Was pleased to see Daniel Hill of No Place Like Home and Waiting For God in tonight's episode as Pete's teacher, one of the more unsung comedy actors of last few years IMO

I think he was also Cassandra's "yuppie" boss in Only Fools and Horses.

So he was!

Re: The commentary

It doesn't intertwine with the action in the same way that, say, the internal thoughts of Peep Show actually link up with things that happen later on. Pete Vs Life's commmentary seems, to me, to be a gimmick that could be removed with absolutely no detriment to the plot.
