What I'd do to know what sitcom this is?

Hi,
I am looking for the name of a british sitcom and I don't have much to go on. It was almost 10 years ago that a group of us were watching this episode on TV here in Canada, and none of us know what show it was. We'd love to buy the entire series but I don't even know if the show was new 10 years ago or if it was an old episode even at that time.

It was about these two english gents that were camping/fishing, outdoors for some reason and they were trying to catch a fish in this little pond that was not large enough for a frog to live in....seriously, it was about three feet in diamter....anyway, the one guy had a blow dart type tube and when his buddy put the dart in the tube and handed it to him (to try catch a fish), he sucked in a huge mouthful of air so he could shoot the dart really hard, but instead he sucked the dart up the tube......the antics that followed were too much to handle without laughing so hard some of us were in tears.

I know this sounds ridiculous but we've never laughed so hard and each time we talk about it, it's like watching it all over again.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what show this may be. I know it's an english sitcom but that's all I know.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Any idea how old it is? I mean, contemporary (ie now about 10 years old)? From the 80s? 70s?

(Moving to the British Sitcoms forum.)

It's called Bottom starring Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson.

That was from series 2 (out of three)

Aha, Seefacts to the rescue! :)

Some different buying options here...

Complete TV box set from Amazon.ca - not sure if it's properly still available though

See Amazon product listing - Complete TV box set from Amazon.co.uk
See Amazon product listing - Complete LIVE box set from Amazon.co.uk, including all of the stage shows, AND the movie.

:)

Well done Seefacts. I think its episode six from the second series where they go fishing. Whatever the case, Bottom is great and you should definitely get the series Linda.

Trivia: the show is called Bottom to cause social gaffs. e.g. episode 1's title is "Smells" in an attempt to get posh BBC continuity announcers to say: "coming up next, bottom smells".

Aaah, Bottom. Childish, rude, immature. I absolutely loved it and still do. Laughing out loud

May be old news (or not even true) but was that particular episode pulled initially because it bore resemblance to a murder story in the news at that time?

I think it was. It's the one where they camp on Wimbledon Common and there were a spate of murders around the time.

Awesome episode.

Edit, from IMDB:

"The last episode of the second series ("'s Out") featuring Richie and Eddie camping out on Wimbledon Common, was due to be broadcast on 5th November 1992. However, a real-life murder on Wimbledon Common shortly before transmission meant that the episode was pulled, and was not seen on TV until after the third series in 1995."

I see there's another box set out, containing series 1-3 plus various stage shows and also Guest House Paradiso. Is it worth getting that or just stick with series 1-3?

I really liked Guest House Paradiso.

But not everyone does.

GHP is great.

Never seen anything else of Bottom though. :-/

Bad dog, I guess it depends on how much you like the show. If you do buy it though, please do buy through us! :)

Well, I've noticed you can get the individal series at around a fiver each. I was thinking that might be the way to go. But I do like GHB as well. The stage shows are an unknown quantity though, I don't know if they are new material or just stuff from the tv episodes. But yes, I do like my Bottom.

the stage shows are new stuff.

The stage shows are great - well worth a watch. They've got an added element of humour as it's all 'live' thus you get to see the corpsing, fluffed lines etc.

This short clip from the third stage show should give you a good idea of what to expect. First time I saw this bit I actually creased up laughing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWvqn7vyBzY

A cock up is funny, but making the most of a cock up is the mark of a great comedian.

If you search YouTube there's quite a few longer clips on there too.

Bottom absolutely rocks. Hope Ade Edmonson's new show (Teenage Kicks) lives up to his legacy.

I can't wait to see that either. He's been talking about it for so long. Well, and doing the radio version I suppose.
