One bit where I thought the commentary worked well was during the sex scene.

Basically it's the same idea but done A LOT better.
No, it's not the same idea. The film/tv clips in Dream On represent Martin Tupper's inner thoughts. If it Dream On is similar to anything, it's Peep Show.
The closest thing I've seen in comedy terms to this is in the radio show Look Away Now, in which commentators commentated on bizarre things like wars or pantomimes. But I think even that's stretching it. I genuinely think that aspect of the show is fairly original.
I enjoyed it, will watch again.
Wonder if when it gets a DVD release there will be a commentary on the commentary?
I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to. I thought the commentators would ruin it completely.
Contrary to the general drift above, I liked the commentators. It gave them a chance to stuff in a lot of extra gags while the action was going on.
A lot of the jokes seemed to be an update on 'and then his trousers fall down just as the vicar walks in'. Be interesting to see how sustainable the idea of the worst possible thing that can happen always happening turns out to be.
But I liked it.

The same could be said of much modern British comedy.

Talking of the DVD, it'll be interesting to see if there's an option on it where you can watch the show as a straight sitcom, without any sports commentator bits. Hope so.
I surprisingly rather enjoyed this. The gimmick wasn't quite as annoying as I thought it might be. Not sure if Rafe Spall is quite the natural comic actor that his father is, though.
Hahahaha, I'm loving this. Juvenile it might be , but the mention of the finger up bum keeps making me laugh.
"Would you like it now?"
"Not if you're in that mood"
"Wanky shop!"
That was excellent, lots of laughs.
I thought this was stronger all round this week. "Wanky shop" was a highlight for me. The little chase afterwards was funny too.
Was pleased to see Daniel Hill of No Place Like Home and Waiting For God in tonight's episode as Pete's teacher, one of the more unsung comedy actors of last few years IMO

That's where I knew him from!! Trevor! Thankyou.

Enjoyable, but I thought the two storylines were a bit weak. And the bit with Pete pretending to cry in the pub was a bit cringey - and not the way it was meant to be. But it's very watchable and the commontators are less distracting now.
