Thanks for your nice comments. I'm happy to've got a sketch in as usually I manage nothing or one-liners.
PS Yes the songs are always parodies. The advice they sent was (1) make your lyrics fit the original as closely as poss and (2) think in terms of sketch-style development instead of just a funny idea repeated over and over.

I'm a bit confused as to what 'sketch-style development' is as quite a lot of sketches are funny ideas repeated over and over.

But I wondered do the girls sing songs on their own? Or the boys? I've subbed two songs both sung by one girl each.

Sure, what they meant was it's easy to think of an idea (e.g. I once did Lady Gaga doing Bros' 'When Will I Be Famous' as 'When Will I Be Sexy'), but that's not enough, you gotta build it up in the same way you'd build up a sketch - premise, development, punch-line.

Are they still emailing out the newsletter? I've not heard a thing in 3 weeks.

Just got a load of requests from them today.

Are you sure? How many comedy songs are that-even when put on stage? A song already has a punchline the musician might say-the final note.

Good advice, but not the type you want to receive. Never mind.

The title/chorus should be the big joke, a play on words, as it were.

But they like the songs to "tell a story" of the news items the ditty is parodying.

Oh, plus, when changing the verse/chorus words, you need to make them as similar sounding to the original lyrics as possible, as that's where the clever humour lies.

Listen to NewsRevue performing my Our House It Won't Sell to get a rough idea of what they go for.

Thank you Mikey, always a pleasure.

Has anyone seen a running order for the Edinburgh show? I seem to get sporadic writers emails from NR, but only see a running order when Mikey posts them on here (cheers for that!)

Cheers Griff! I was just wondering if anything of mine was in and it doesn't look like it is. I've got a few in the current London run though, so not too downhearted!

Just received this:

One week, during the normal run, Roscoff and I both had a sketch on. It's a shame no reviewers were in that week.
