They get better, but you should start at the beginning to see the characters develop.

I'd agree, watch from the beginning if possible and get drawn in...and when it gets weird it just gets better..
It's written very much so as a serial comedy. So you'd need to start from square one to get the entire story (don't even skip the Christmas special!). I feel that it's one of the few shows that gets better with age and can be watched several times around to get all of the jokes and plot lines.
Ideal is truly one of the best shows that the BBC has to offer. I'm looking forward to 8 new episodes.
I really need to sit down properly and re-watch it from Series 1 (DVDs purchased a few months ago and waiting). I've not watched it properly since probably Series 3 - can't wait to get back into the show.
I've already watched the first series, I can't get enough of it!
It's really different, great writing I think and something different from alot of comedies.
I'm thinking about getting the DVDs, this Christmas special mentioned above, is it included on one of the DVDs? I had a look on amazon but it doesn't say...thanks in advance if anyone knows!

Yes, I have the Series 2 DVD and can confirm that it contains the 2005 Christmas special.

I love love LOVE Ideal and I hate hate HATE Janeane Garofalo. I hope they kill her off in the first episode. She is such a freaking downer.

She was okay in 24, bickering with the other IT geek. And she was good in Larry Sanders.

She ruined the last season of 24. I don't know if it's the result of too much Botox or plastic surgery, but her face seems capable of forming only one expression: an eternal pout completely devoid of charm. Before each episode, my son and I prayed that her character would die.

Not at all, not at all. I used to like her comedy but she's like a lump of clay now. Truly creepy.
