I find Sharpe's novels to be very bad-natured, while Wodehouse on the other hand is very good-natured. Probably my favourite writer of all time.
A funny book is 'I'm a Believer' by Jessica Adams. It's about a guy called Mark who's despondant when his girlfriend Catherine dies. And then she comes back as a ghost! Not only that, but she's found a new girlfriend for him.
I like the Adrian Mole books. Very funny. My favourite.

What on earth is that supposed to mean?
Sharpe is a vicious social satirist, acidic and hilarious.
He and Wodehouse are apples and oranges.
Albeit he is more of an orange grenade, packed full of piss, bile and semtex.

I can very, very highly reccomend Carl Hiaasen.
Tibor Fischer is a very funny writer. Good To Be God is a great book.

The 80s ones were the best.
Anyone mentioned Douglas Adams or Bill Bryson both of whom are funny and wise.
I think the reason I don't like Hiaasen. Is he reads like a light weight US Sharpe.
And Pratchett (you always miss the biggies),
Diary of a Nobody is very funny. As is, Augustus Carp Esquire. I've always found Catcher in The Rye hilarious, but that isn't strictly humour.

The film's okay, mainly thanks to a great score by the mighty Luke Haines. Haven't read the book.
