Sitcoms you would bring back Page 8

Bottom, with Ritchie and Eddie in prison.

Respectable on Channel 5 was good a few years back. Also Angelo's.

Black Books, Black Books, Black Books. I want more Black Books.

Could definitely work. Didn't they set one of the Bottom Live shows in a prison, too?

It would probably be shit, but if by some miracle Michael Crawford agreed to do a Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em special I would definitely watch and record it. It'd still be brilliant if only for sentimental purposes.

I would want Only Fools and Horses to return. Actually, No I wouldn't. If it came back at The Green Green Grass standard I would probably cry... or kill myself.

Really liked Director's Commentary with Rob Brydon. It seemed a much neglected series at the time, maybe because it seemed out of place on ITV - not a sitcom I suppose, but still very good.

Human Remains with Julia Davis and Rob Brydon, also Goodnight Sweetheart which has a kind of hypnotic effect on me for reasons I can't work out, so I would definitely watch that.
Also The Thick Of It.

Edited for all sorts by zooo.

Yeah I'm digging up an old thread. I thought I would start one of these and searched to find there was already one from '08 and one from '09, so I went with the '09 thread.

Anyway, recently when I was on holiday in the North of Scotland I watched The Thin Blue Line, every episode, in our little lodge up on the hills. This is one sitcom I would LOVE to see being brought back. I know Atkinson is hard at work on prepping Johnny English Reborn, (it's Re-something anyway) but he hasn't done anything of great value since... the mid-90s I reckon?

I know the show was panned, but why?!! I am always in hysterics watching it. Grim is a classic character, the phrasing and the words and the actual pure genius with the English language is great. Always thought this was very short lived. What does everyone think about this?

The other sitcom I think could be good bringing it back for a one-off special is Keeping Up Appearances. Only Rose and Daddy would be absent... As I suggested in another thread, imagine something along the lines of Onslow and Daisy win the lottery, to Hyacinth's disgust, as they have got something for doing nothing forever... Imagine her at the end describing Daisy's house as the one with the swimming pool and room for a pony, or some joke like this. I reckon that could be good. What do you guys think?

The Thin Blue Line is excellent. A solid gold little nugget of a sitcom - but I'd worry about the potential for spoiling it, particularly given Elton's vast body of work since.

The original Rose is still alive, she is currently playing Edna in Emmerdale

You mean his recent work has been sub-par in comparison to his 1980s/90s material? Yeah it really is a gold nugget, it's one of the few comedies that can genuienly make me laugh. I appreciate the humour in comedies and often think, "that's clever" but it's one of the few that get me laughing out loud. It doesn't fanny about in that department.

Really? I thought she died. There is always that option then...

I don't think they should ever bring back anything. Series die for a reason, generally. Those that don't waste away naturally tend to be ones with cult following - like Pulling or Garth Marenghi - and the pressure to live up to that expectation for a new series would be so enormous I don't think it would be worth it. Let the writers get on with something else and let byegones be byegones.

One Foot, although I know it should never be. That cracks me up more than anything. Other than that, Garth M, Catterick or League of Gentlemen. Out of those three one will surely appear.

Yes, outside of this and Blackadder, he's best forgotten.

Whilst I can't argue with the notion that shows end for a reason, I do have to disagree with the idea that nothing should be brought back. If only because it has been done so well in the past: Steptoe And Son returning after 5 years, the Sykes And A... format being revived, and also the Happy Ever After to Terry & June transition.
