I'd like to enroll on a course for TV script writing, preferably comedy. Problem is, there are millions of them. Anybody know which are best?
Script writing for TV
Moving thread.
Where to?
Here ?
Alex. Aaron meant he moved the thread from whatever forum it was originally to THIS forum which is Writers Discussion.
Answering your question, script writing courses can teach you how to format properly and offer a few tips, but they will not teach you how to write scripts.
You need to be able to write, i.e. tell a story already.
Do you feel you are good at writing and simply want to hone your writing skills?
Or are you somebody who hasn't even written a shopping list who thinks that a writing course will turn you into a writer?
Thanks Mikey.
I'd say I just want to hone my skills. I've written a few episodes of a sitcome (I've posted one here) but need to hone my skills to make it marketable. I'd be glad of any advice.
Mikey, why do you think such a rude reply is required to a perfectly sensible question?
Sorry. Reading my reply back again, I guess it does sound very rude, although I didn't mean it to sound so harsh.
Anyway, as Griff says above, the Marc Blake or Dave Cohen courses seem to be the best, judging by past comments on this board.

He had a sitcom one last weekend.
Thanks for your replies. Problem is I live in Spain. Any over the internet?

I see nothing particularly rude about this answer, you do need to be able to write, tell a story correctly. These are questions you have to ask yourself when applying for writing courses.
I find Declan's and Simon's advice brilliant but you'd need to enter the sitcom mission comp. I learned so much from their workshops it's incredible. And here was me thinking I knew it all LOL
Quote: Griff @ August 2 2010, 7:54 PM BSTI don't know of any online comedy writing courses, sorry.
Wasn't that Roy Gould bloke touting something like that on here?
I wonder how many bits of mail he gets addressed to Mr Roy Gold.
I've been called everything in my time.......
Jack Gold was a good director.
