The IT Crowd 4.0 Page 31

I really enjoyed the last episode, barring the Noel Fielding segment. Unnecessary, not funny, and just a cheap ploy topull in the Boosh fangirls.

Well since the show features both Dixon Brainbridges in the form of Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry, I would say they were probably already watching.

It started off, despite the lack of Roy, Moss, and IT-related subject matter, jokes, or office settings, quite well. But Richmond in the dock, boring. Just ... dull. Until it got to that bit I was tempted to say that it was surprisingly good, and question why the series has been so massively varied in quality.

I thought it was pretty good all the way through - except for the ending.

I've spent far too much time on here and in my own mindtank analysing the shortcomings and strengths of Linehan's writing to go back into it, but this episode had masses of positives. It contained some good satire, effective characterisation (the wife), original and unexpected gags and didn't bend the characters out of shape- Moss being sued by his mother seems much more likely than half the things that have happened to to him in this series. Linehan even managed to be get a few good and unexpected laughs out of the courtroom scene, which are usually comedy death.

A much better end to the series than last year's execrable calendar geeks which sort of dribbled away. Mind you this ended a bit abruptly.

Production notes/trivia:

1. Get Jen some new clothes. She's worn that bastard grey waistcoat in practically every episode of the last two series.

2. Doesn't milk look weird on TV? Seeing it cloud those wine glasses made me realise we never see on the screen.

3. The courtroom scene was a screened insert rather than a live set - hear the audience gasp when the first shot of Richmond appears.

:D
That's been really annoying me!

Overall I'd say the whole series was worth watching, it had it's moments.

There were good episodes, I enjoyed the Countdown one, and bad ones. Also some of the acting in it annoys me as it's soooooo 'I'm gonna do this funny'!

I didn't like the last episode though. I never liked the boss character and the whole episode was about him with Roy and Moss only having very small cameos. :(

I felt cheated when the "Richmond in the witness box" story line just fizzled out.

I laughed at that bit! We'd been led to imagine that there was going to be a massive shock to the court case, but then our expectations are confounded in a particularly silly way.

The whole thing was delightfully silly, a real winner on that score, and the best episode of this series for me.

I really enjoyed this episode, would have liked to have seen more of Moss and Richmond as they're my favourite characters.

I think the milk joke was a bit overdone, it was funny the first time but then the novelty wore off.

Hopefully next series they all interact a bit more. I don't think the show is as funny when they all have their own things going on.

I do hope this becomes a regualr feature of your reviews! :D

Haha! Yes!

The most disturbing thing is Moz's hair... I liked the neat topiary look, now it looks a bit unkempt and even trendy!

Moss! Not Moz!

Ok.... Moss....

Not sure that the Matt Berry character is strong enough to carry a whole episode. Good series though. They've managed to keep a good standard up over the four years. I wonder how many more they can keep going for?

I only saw the last one but to borrow a phrase, I thought it a bit of a damp squid. Some funny moments for sure but nowhere near as consistently funny as the Linehan of yore. I did very much like the way the MY OFFICE sign moved to the bottom of the door when the note was passed under it though.

On the hot button topic of Parkinson always wearing the same clothes. She works in an office, of course she always wears the same clothes. That's what people in offices do.
