That Mitchell And Webb Look - Series 4 Page 18

You say that like it's a bad thing. Most popular comedians and TV people don't make TV shows during their week off from the office.

No, but it's no coincidence that most artists do their best work early in their career when they're still connected to reality and all the frustrations and hardships that brings.

M&W are gifted funny men by definition i.e. Oxbridge student comedy roots playing to Oxbridge students with a stint at the Fringe = developed BBC comedy unit vocabulary mixed with nice middle class roots = BBC comedy unit budget. Like so much of BBC comedy, they sit comfortably with what's already there, the 'Get Me Hennimore' sketch, or whatever it's called bears this truth out, that sketch is crap! And it's their longest one in the current (and last) series I think? And just like Monty Python often their comedy is a middle class schoolboy behind their backs piss-take of the working class.

If you want contempt for the working classes look at shows like Lunch Monkeys or Coming of Age, which I get the impression were not written by the Oxbridge comedy elite.

I'm almost looking forward to seeing how bad this is tomorrow!

God, what a disaster! (probably)

I'm not going to watch it... I might. But I don't want to.

Very true.

I have a quick question. What was that sketch from a few weeks ago in the style of current 'reality' shows such as Hotel Inspector and their ilk? It kinda went something along the lines of 'Coming up in ??? sketch, will ????? find out ????'
It was one joke stretched out for ages...but for comic effect (not like their entire career)

Sorry if that's a bit vague, but I'm a vague kind of person.....

That sounds like the gift shop sketch, it didn't really work for me.

Edit to say that compared to last week's episode, it was unrivalled comedic genius.

Thanks Gerry, I didn't think it was that funny myself either, its just that my wife insists on watching those type of reality shows. I caught a few seconds of the M&W sketch and thought they captured the time-filling tactics of those shows quite well. I wanted to show it to the Mrs, perhaps to puncture the belief that those programmes are worth watching.

Off to YouTube I go........

Peeople still talking about this awful content? Dear me, it is garbage - and about as close to the zeigeist as a five year old mobile handset.

You should feel quite comfortable with it then.

I have to agree with Jim once again. It may be Geisty but it's got no Zeit.
