Broadcast pitch competition

You've got to somehow distil your whole idea into just 140 characters (which admittedly might be a bit of a flawed way of pitching)... but the prize makes it worth giving a go I think: a ticket to the Broadcast Comedy Forum where you can mingle with the top producers and things (tickets to the conference cost over £300 so probably the only possible route in for many)...

Thanks for sharing this, Mark. You probably could have kept it all to yourself. ;)

I've entered. It is based on an earlier sci-fi sitcom idea called "Doors" but I've since retitled "Another Dimension". I started it last year and sent a pilot script to a production company (Perfectly Normal Productions), but it has been nearly a year and I haven't heard back from yet, (I sent an email to them 7 months after I sent the script, and they still hadn't got around to reading it) so I thought I might pitch it as an animated TV version. Here is my 140 character pitch:

Anime sitcom starring an accidentally rich botanist, a steampunk Dalmatian, a hawk-eyed fashion criminal and a sadistic perverted catgirl.

I think that pitch is bound to attract some interest.

Also, for those having trouble imagining what this would look like, see here (I don't know how to shrink the image to fit on the forum page).

I appreciate the difficulty in pitching using so few characters but all you've really done here is list a cast. You've given absolutely no context as to how they relate to one another or the universe they exist in. Where's the drama coming from?

How do you enter this anyway - the doors closed on June 9th according to the link.

This link reckons September 6th?

So it does, I was looking at the END date at the top of the post. Still no clearer as to how to enter the thing though.

Agreed.

"All you have to do is submit your carefully thought out LOGLINE in no more than 140 characters and TWITCH it to us by September 6th 2010."

What kind of Moon Man talk is that?

Does this require the opening of a Twitter account? Because that's a line I'm trying really hard not to cross.

Well even if it did, it doesn't even give you a Twitter account to send it to, or any hashtags or anything.

Ian seems to know what's what but I'd forgive him for not helping us with an answer.

You have to register on that Comedy Twitch website and spasm your logline over to them...apparently.

I registered but to whom do I send a pitch to? The guy who wrote the linked post?

I know. Twelve months from now Crouching Catgirl Hidden Dalmatian is going to be the hottest property on TV and you and me are going to look like fools.

Laughing out loud

I haven't registered so I really can't tell you.

You've made that look like I'm laughing at my own joke - a bad habit I try to restrict to real life.

Sorry, it must have got rid of it on its own. Damnation!

From our news story. I've not tried it myself though as I don't have a sitcom idea in me:

To enter you need to create a free account with Combined Mind and then create a profile for yourself. Once you have done so, a link will appear to allow you to submit your entry

Ian - where did you get the picture from?
