Not a writer - where to pitch an idea?

Hi,

I'm not a writer but I have a pitch for an improv/satire show. Where would I go to make a pitch to a production team? I mean, essentially it's summed up as The Daily Show UK (but weekly).

You know the Daily Show with John Stewart? Well, why haven't we got a UK edition/spin-off? We have Fox media taking over the country - think about how David Cameron just repeated jobs tax jobs tax every time he got on TV. That was a line from The Sun newspaper. He's Eton and Oxbridge educated and all he does is parrot out tabloid editorial sound-bites.

There's the whole newspaper agenda. They all buy into the bullshit narratives spun by the Telegraph, The Mail, The Sun. Then there's Sky News, which is Fox propaganda UK. BBC News are ripe for a kicking, their supine little asses are getting RIPPED by Murdoch's throbbing, red-helmeted ... agenda.

It needs one half-decent anchor (for my money Rory Bremner AS HIMSELF - because he's looking for ways to escape the impersonation straight-jacket and he knows his shit) and a couple of co-presenters/sketch actors, a bit more comedic than Bird and Fortune (bless em but we've moved on).

So who would I ask? All I'm looking for personally would be a small cash thank you (hahaha) and some low-pressure experience in production. My professional skills don't amount to much more than making tea and coffee (damn GOOD tea and coffee mind).

Anyone? Help?

Ta...

seriously, when we have NCIS:LA and even Law and Order UK... the answer to your question is:I DON'T KNOW!

The answer is, we've tried it. There was a BBC4 show with Marcus Brigstocke, that seemed the closest copy. That failed. Our equivalents are probably The Now Show, The News Quiz, and HIGNFY. Oh, and Newsjack.

Yeah, fair enough. For me they're not the same sort of show as the Daily Show, more comedy shows that use the news as a jumping off point for jokes.

I'm talking more needled satire, taking the right wing agenda to task instead of just going "Legal high? I gave my mother in law mephedrome once ... [insert punch-line here]"

Ah well. We really ARE doomed then.

At least I tried.

Forgive the gatecrash:

Hi, I am a very experienced BBC trained Comedy Producer/Director. I run a Online
One to one email mail/skype comedy script mentoring course. My aim is to help writers get there script and pitch in the best possible shape for them to send into the Indies & Broadcasters. Email me. See my profile and look me up on IMDB Roy Gould

And he still hasn't corrected that "I run a online" mistake.

They've been trying to launch a UK version of The Daily Show and the UK version of a nightly chat show for years. If you combine the two and lower your expectations somewhat, then you kind of get The RDA, which used to be on BBC Choice.

Anyone remember that? A fine programme watched by literally hundreds...

So your big idea is basically "we should get some people to write some really good satire, and then put it in some kind of show"?

You see how much fun it is, Griff? Bullying and belittling people online. Why restrict that to just MC's when there's a whole digital world out there!

I have to say I got a nice wedge for writing on a similar project.

So yes if you've got the money and the lack of vision I'll bring the venality and greed

Eh?

He wrote their instead of there.

A grey squirrel of an error.

Laughing out loud

I actually do get it now though, thanks.

Well that's me told.

I was trying to encourage you. It's fun to watch.

I'm pretty sure I've been guilty of that occasionally.

Pah unlikely you always write there instead of there, but never there or even there.

What are MC/s anyway?
