The Great Outdoors

So this starts tonight on BBC4, 9pm.

From what I can see, they haven't really given it that much publicity.

However, the casting of this suggests that it should be worth tuning in for, particularly for the often superb Mark Heap.

The lack of publicity has been astonishing. Makes you wonder if they are trying to quietly bury it.

Maybe. Hopefully not. Perhaps they're thinking it'll be a sleeper hit. Or something.

They filmed this down where I lived and I reported on it for our local newspaper.

From what I saw of the script it looked pretty funny. It's only a three part series but I could see it being developed and moved to BBC One or Two.
The writers said it was a right place at the right time sort of thing. BBC Four are doing this 'Great Outdoors' season and they just happened to have this script that suited it perfectly.

The writers were great guys. They took time out from the filming to chat to me about my own writing ambitions and gave me some really good advice. They took a script from me as well and said they would pass it on to the producer.

The cast were a bit distant but they were in the midst of filming I suppose. Joe Tracini (Joe Pasquale's son) was a real funny guy though and was really friendly with all the extras. He's a good comic actor, I hope he goes on to bigger things.

I've seen adverts on the telly, and some of the cast interviewed on Breakfast. Exactly what sort of publicity do you want? Hey? Mm?

I only saw one advert, yesterday.

I shall be watching!

Is it repeated anytime as I'm not sure I can watch it tonight?

Also, how many episodes are there in the series?

Taping this tonight. BBC Four has a pretty good sitcom track record - The Thick Of It, Getting On.

It has. Makes me wish they'd give them BBC Three's massive comedy budget and see what they could come up with.

Only 3. Same as Getting On and Thick first series.

Taping this tonight. BBC4 has a pretty good sitcom track record - The Thick Of It, Getting On. Here's hoping this is as good.

I quite liked The Cowards, too.

It's pretty freaking mundane. Get around to watching soon; you're not saving yourself some delicacy.

I see it's from the people behind Hyperdrive. That might strike fear into some, but I never minded it.

Eight minutes in and I'm loving it so far. :D

Mm, I'm not sure. Didn't really work for me, and it's definitely no Thick Of It or Getting On. Although the infinite pudding scheme did make me smile. And the English countryside looks nice.

I was laughing most of the time. Mainly the parts with Jones and Heap, but the character of Tom was excellent too.

The one downside were the parts with the two youngest walkers, maybe it was the acting?
