oh ok. i wonder how many they will pick?? will it be the 6 straight away or will they get a long short list do you think? what other competitions have you entered then?

There's a few floating about at the moment on the forum. I know I entered the angeleye one, and FAILED.
The others have all just blurred into one.
:)

oh well good luck with the others!!! i guess we'll just have to wait and see about red planet!

Hello Ruth and welcome.

I guess you have a vested interest.

I've heard nothing as yet - but I'm ready!

Hi Ruth, I think they'll have a long list and then whittle it down for the mentoring day.

Hi, I got an email yesterday morning (Wednesday 7th) saying that one of my scripts has been chosen for the second round and invitng me to send the full script and to agree to some Terms and Conditions. There was no indication of how many will go into the second round. Anybody else heard anything? I think, if I remember from the original call for submissions, that they would make a final decision before Christmas.

Nice one Julie! Nope, haven't heard anything yet (but then I haven't had a chance to write the full scripts either...). Just out of interest how long have they given you to send in the full script?

Hi Simon - I sent it in straight away. They didn't specify a deadline in the email - but they had said at the beginning of the contest that full scripts should be ready by mid-october, so I think that they would expect a more or less immediate response. They need to short list to 6, then pick the finalist before Chrimbo.

Doh. Lucky I haven't been chosen then I guess... I'll be more prepared next year. Good luck with yours - which one did they choose?

They chose "Brian and the River Horse" - here's the synopsis that I sent them :

"Due to a misunderstanding, six-year old Brian is convinced that he knows what will cure his mother. Undaunted by the barriers and rules of the adult world, he sets out to kidnap a baby pygmy hippo with the help of his rather surreal friend, Robbie.

During his quest, he learns that whilst this ‘cure’ will not work it will make his mother, and the rest of his despairing family, happy once more. He successfully gets the hippo from the zoo to his home only to find that his mother is back in hospital.

Brian and Robbie have converted some of their antagonists into allies and together they work out a plan to get the pungent and unhygienic wild animal into the sterile world of the hospital. They get her past a drunk, a receptionist, a nurse and a doctor.

When Amber escapes, a ward full of resourceful no-nonsense old women and their mint humbugs turns out to be very useful.

The final barrier is Brian’s father who is, naturally, over-protective of his wife. However, faced with a room full of visitors, a television camera crew, and the cast of Star Wars – he gives in and finds that he can smile again.

Inspired by “Life is Beautiful”, “Bringing up Baby” and “Little Miss Sunshine” "

Wow - I can see why they wanted the whole script, I like the way it succinctly summarises the story, but still manages to raise a whole host of questions that the reader wants answered (the misunderstanding, why is Robbie surreal etc.).

Oh I remember reading some of that when you put a link up. It was great.
Congrats, Julie!

I've heard nothing but this is the latest news on the site.

"Our apologies for the delay, but emails to finalists will now be going out over the next fews days. This group will then be assessed until we have the final group for mentoring and then the ultimate winner.

Again, sorry we can let everyone know individually that they haven't made it - or reply to individual queries."

would be nice if they either put up a list of those through or emailed everyone at the same time...

Maybe they have - and we've all failed miserably.

Or maybe Julie is winding us up.
