Now we'll know at the end of the month, it always surprises me how competitions and companies underestimate the demand of something free.

Still, gives us time to work on the scripts a little more.

I'll tell you what worries me about competitions like this - especially ones that have a huge response - is that your entry may not even get looked at, or maybe dismissed without a proper read because it took too long to open the document or they didn't liike your address or something.

I know this can happen from personal experience. A long time ago I was doing work experience in a media-related industry for a company overseeing a competition with celebrity judges. One day I was sent off to go through all the entries and pick a short list for the judges. I was no expert and I only had a set amount of time to do this in. I tried to be as fair as I could but to be honest I didn't even have a chance to look at all the entries. As a student I wasn't even qualified to be judging and at the time I thought it was incrediably unfair and felt that it was a real shame that all these entries, that had obviously had a lot of work spent on them, were being overlooked.

I had forgotton all about this incident until I started entering comedy comps. I always found it odd when something I had entered in one did really well, while I wouldn't even get a reply with the same entry in another competition! It really does depend on who gets to look at your stuff first.

I just looked at their site and got excited because there was some news there.

Unfortunately though they're going into factual programmes.

Maybe they'll do a programme about writers who get conned into competitions.

(Sorry - I didn't mean that because I know I'm going to win)

lol. I got that exact same feeling, quite a large new section, maybe that general announcement and then.... ah well.

Final Shortlist!
Wednesday/31/October 2007
Thanks for your patience, but we've now decided on the finalists for the Red Planet Prize. The quality of entrants has been amazing and it's been incredibly hard to decide on those to make it through. Those that haven't made it, take heart. With two thousand entrants we had to be extremely exacting - so do please try again next year!

Over the next week, the finalists will receive requests for their full scripts. We can't, unfortunately, individually reply to everyone else, but do keep writing and thank you.

I type prize here, it comes up fine, but when I write it here with an S, it's prize.

Bloody yank sites! You'd think Aaron would know better.

Incidentally I looked about half an hour ago and nothing was there. I suppose this is almost being as good as their word - end of the month - but they could still be lying.

I think they've just bought themselves another week - if they were really ready they could have just done it tonight.

Looks like I'm right, they're sending emails over the "next few days" now....

Hello everyone!!!

I only just found this site although have been thinking about the competiton for ages!! I was just wondering how many people do you think will get onto the shortlist - how many will get emails???

Also when do you think they would want us to send in the full script by???

Has anyone been successful so far??

I take it if you haven't heard by now you're not in the final :(

have you heard??

No one's heard yet.

Unless I'm getting my competitions mixed up.
