Actually that is one of my favourites, though it was weaker this week.
That Mitchell And Webb Look - Series 4 Page 12

What do you think it is that tickles you about it? I'd love to be able to enjoy it.
I like it because it's genuinely chilling, not many sketch shows can carry that off!
Always difficult to pin down comedy, perhaps it is the British gamely struggling on with a semblance of normality, or our media obsessed civilisation dying out with a game show. I just find it very bleak and funny.
I liked the gift shop sketch, probably because I'm sick of the 'coming up in part 2!!" style of modern telly.

As with so many Mitchell and Webb sketches, I enjoyed the idea behind the sketch far more than the actual sketch. It was the same with the Moon Landing Conspiracy sketch - loved the idea behind it, but didn't quite jel on screen.
That said, overall it was an enjoyable show. Still no where near a classic sketch show, but raises a smile more often than not.

I have to agree with this. They are increasingly relying on comedy of recognition- specifically of David Mitchell's pet annoyances - without putting in the work to take the idea anywhere very interesting. The 'haitch' sketch last week was another example.
Quote: Jinky @ July 21 2010, 9:40 AM BSTHands up all those who thought at first that the Lion Bar sketch was going to be a continuation of the Cunnilingus sketch.
They either couldn't be bothered to put the sketches in the right order or they were really messing with our minds.
They usually have a sketch, playing themselves, chatting on the set of one of the other sketches.
I get the impression they're doing a Hennimore sketch each week to cut costs or something. I think we get that particular joke now, don't we?
I do think this series has dipped slightly in quality.
Also, there used to be a balance between the silly and cerebral but now that balance seems to have shifted more to the clever stuff that, although still well done, is easier to admire than laugh out loud at.
For me the funniest sketch on last night's show was the tiny office - probably the most silly sketch on there - and it was almost a relief to be able to park the brain in neutral and just enjoy the idiocy of it.
Bo.

I know. But they usually do the chatting after the sketch, not the other way round.
I get the impression they're doing a Hennimore sketch each week to cut costs or something.
I was wondering that. The last series had giant CGI scorpions, this series seems to have three 'shakey-wall' sets.
Unless they've spent the entire budget on a 3D sixth episode , or something.

I suppose 3D would have made the punch to the Hennimore sketch better.
I find it odd that people find the post apocalyptic quiz show bleak and chilling. Any undercurrents of tragedy in it are executed in a hacky manner in my opinion.
Just adding my voice to the cunnilingus praise too. That made me laugh.

Hm, can't say I've ever found it actually bleak or chilling; I don't think they're trying to go for that either.
Of course they are!
Quote: zooo @ July 21 2010, 7:49 PM BSTOf course they are!
Then they're failing! I've always just thought of it as silly. In a good way.
