Consider this, there are a billion children across the world living in poverty, which tends to suggest that people have kids regardless of their finances. Therefore I think your scheme would create more poverty, and all the money you saved in taxes, you'd have to spend on barbed wire fences and guard dogs to keep out the starving underclasses.
It's a damn good job the ball (when I missed it..) has run across the floor and under the sideboard! I think you have a good Sixth Form Common Room debating point going there! We have stopped the evil perpetrator of the plan to axe child benefit payments and as a direct result prevented the inevitable decline into chaos! A starving, marauding underclass would otherwise be marching through the school gates, as we speak!
Well done, Nogget minor!

Some of us would agree that we would like a society where all the young have opportunity to learn and grow up in a decent environment. After all, we can't all have Middle Class mummies and daddies to pay for potties trimmed with chrome!
I don't think arbitrarily handing out Child Benefit payments to all mothers is the way to do it though, as it's not working well enough to give us that society we are talking about.
I think there must be a better way to create a fairer opportunity for all children. We won't find it by just keeping the status quo. But they can't all grow up to be brain surgeons, we need a range of jobs to be available so that all these children who deserve a decent chance in life can ultimately pay for all our pensions. Mmm, not sure why all that money I've paid into the system all my life isn't available to pay for my pension, something went wrong there then.
But where are these jobs going to come from? There would appear to be a hell of a lot of young people who seem to be unemployable in the current job market.
Perhaps we can just pay them to stay at home, eh?
Ah, Job Seekers allowance, now then..
..but if we cut that I guess that marauding underclass will be upon us once again..
I'm too thick to know what to do. <cut and paste this last comment and post something to my disadvantage, that may help>
