It was After effects - with trapcode Particular...plus a still of a torpedo from Google. Ah the infinite resource of the internet!

Good again. I'd just have the opening bit of dialogue myself. The 'what's that you say?' bit weakens it a little for me. It's not adding anything new. Buy hey, it's your sketch! :)

I am not familiar with these can you elucidate? Is it pricey?

Good point well received! I'm not to keen on the dialogue aspect myself- has been bugging me for a while. Will try an option as you suggest!

They are quite pricy yes- After effects is a professional motion graphics tool from the guys that make photoshop and Particular is a 3D particle system plug-in. After effects itself is over £1000 without discounts as memory serves.
