So, who's signing up then ?
The Big Society
I don't know anything about this. Please enlighten me my lovely.
Ahhhh I see. Well I will sign up. You never know I could be the next MP.
It's about time some arsey whingers got off their fat behinds and did something for themselves for once, that's a fact. Cut more public services! But cut income tax as well. Taxed to the bloody hilt we are. Bloody ridiculous!

If MP stands for Massive Pratt.
Personally I would sooner pay a bit more tax and help pay for a professional rather than spending all my spare time doing unpaid voluntary work.
It was a terrible idea during the election and got ditched pretty soon.
It's a terrible idea now and will get ditched pretty soon.
Sounds like a massive, unworkable waste of money to me.
Plus, if the public are in charge of local spending decisions then expect lots of new Facebook groups like:
'Swindon needs a monorail LOLZ!!'
The Big Society isn't funny it's really actually seriously dangerous.
One thing Labor got right when in power was the development of the "3rd sector." Charities and social businesses with a narrow area of interest. The MS society are usually the best at supporting people with multiple sclerorsis, The Coastguard seem to know the most about rescuing sailors etc.
Cheaper and more efficent than local government/councils. And less likely to cut corners than businesses. They paid the 3rd sector to do alot of what once was the work of government.
Now they're planning to carve this back. If you think there are enough volunteers in your local community to run the pools, parks, daycentres, schools etc. Good luck.
Having the money to live in a shit society isn't much of a bonus.

No it didn't.
Well it kinda went on the back burner...
It gave GordyB one of his few gulps of oxygen. But then it is a massively unrealistic and stupid idea.
Mind you we BCGers could offer to take over BBC comedy as volunteer minstrels and clowns?

Exactly. It didn't catch the public's imagination and half of the Tory MPs didn't have a clue what it was about and consequently the party stopped talking about it.
