What's everyones thoughts about writing about the media, whether it be in a sitcom or a movie?
I've heard that it's not a good idea and that they never get made yet there's several movies about the media, Truman Show, Ed TV etc. Someone mentioned a while ago about the BBC not wanting any media based shows, yet they made the truely awful Persuasionists.
I have an idea for a movie involving reality TV, but I'm weary that it will be pretty much redundant.
Any thoughts?
Unless you're already a player I'd steer well clear. The chances of an unknown selling a script in this climate are frighteningly low - Noel Fielding is having pilots turned down right now - so why make your job any harder than it is already?
Never say never, but the word is they're (the BBC) not looking for anymore - but then that was last year.
The truth is if you presented them with a media comedy that blew their socks off, or gave it a new twist they'd break you're arm to have it.

Fielding's an acquired taste, so it doesn't surprise me he's having stuff turned down.

True, but the fans he does have are pretty rabid. Plus he's one of the few comedians we have that have enjoyed some success abroad.

I wouldn't disagree with that, but I think it's that polarising quality that might turn some off. And outside of Boosh, he hasn't really had a succesful show in his own right. He's been great in cameos, but nothing as a headliner.
True, but you think someone would have taken a punt on airing a pilot at least, particularly as it was an animated affair.
Funnily enough I was sort of involved in a Noel Fielding pitch that was knocked back - a BBC producer asked me and a mate to do a novel animated pitch for the show in question.
