Swan

Hi :) Well out of practice so any opinions very welcome indeed.

INT. BAR. NIGHT.

A WOMAN WALKS (KAREN) FROM THE BAR TO HER SEAT. SHE BUMPS INTO A SWAN (MIKE).

KAREN:
Sorry. You ok?

SWAN.
Karen?

KAREN:
Sorry do I know you?

MIKE:
It's me, Mike.

KAREN:
Mike! Wow, didn't recognise you. You look different. Look well.

MIKE:
Tell me about it. Woke up one day looked in a frozen pond and there I was.

KAREN:
Crazy huh...look I didn't mean to hurt you..

MIKE:
Well you did. I mean..I expected it from all the birds but you? You know how hard it was for me. I told you how my family treated me just because I was different, how they told me to get out, quack quack, get out, quack quack, get out of town.

KAREN:
I know and I am really sorry. I did look for you at the farm but they said you'd moved. Listen...call me if you want we could...

MIKE:
Yeah now I'm the best in town? I don't think so Karen. Listen I'm here with some friends so err...been good to see you.

KAREN:
Yeah good to see you too.

MIKE WALKS OVER TO A TABLE WHERE A BUNCH OF SWANS ARE DRINKING AND TALKING.

SWAN:
Hey Mike.

MIKE:
Hey Phil. Honk.

ALL THE SWANS:
Honk honk honk honk honk.

MIKE LOOKS BACK AT KAREN FORLORNLY WHO IS NOW SITTING WITH FRIENDS.

END.

You are a true original. Wonderful.

This went straight over my head I'm afraid :(

It's based on The Ugly Duckling. Hope that helps :)

Interesting! I'd correct the typo "looked in a frozen pond" ... "locked", presumably?

Not being a pedantic arse on spelling (I'll leave that to others..) but it put me off a bit.

Good sketch in the right setting!

:)

It is looked isn't it?
When he sees his reflection.

Nice sketch either way.
and a good idea.

No typo. He looked in a frozen pond, saw his reflection. Now you can enjoy the sketch.

Hey sorry scratchyr, it read wrong to me for some reason (on first reading)!

It reads OK now!

But I'd put an 'and' in, 'and looked in a frozen pond' or a (BEAT) or a (PAUSE) between 'woke up' and 'looked' otherwise other dimwits like me may read it wrong!

Hey, but a mere detail, GOOD sketch!

:)

*sorry, I edited this post before I realised you'd posted again!*

No worries at all :)

Hi Scratchyr,

Nice idea but I have to admit, I was where you were at the end very early on in the sketch.

I was waiting for a twist - maybe along the lines of the fact that he is an actual swan (with the wrong parts etc) rather than a metaphorical one.

I think Scratchyr is more literal than you give him credit for!

Funny how we all read things differently. I thought he was a real swan and she was a human woman that prefers ducks? Or is that what you 'read' and I am not 'reading' you correctly?

I am now confused!

Or maybe they are both swans?

Geek

:) Mike is a real swan. Karen is a human lady. She dumped him because he was an ugly duckling but now he's a beautiful white swan. I admit that Karen sitting down with ducks at the end is confusing and I'll edit it to say she sits down with humans. Sorry for the mix up. Thanks for all the feedback though.

I got it, I got it.

But, beautiful or not, he's still a swan. I believe only the queen is allowed to shag them.

Well, ok but be careful you don't upset the ducks that she sat down with! Damn sensitive some of those birds!
