Vodka Pants sketch

(IN THE STYLE OF A TV ADVERT)

LOTS OF PSEUDO-FANCY PHOTOS OF VODKA PANTS FLASHING ALL OVER THE SCREEN IN A DISORIENTATING MANNER.

VOICEOVER MAN
Vodka Pants! That's right! Introducing Vodka Pants. They're the first undergarment ever to be made entirely from vodka. No need to thank me! As well as being supremely snug, their high alcohol content means that you'll never have to worry about bathing your private parts again; it's all taken care of for you.

DAD, LOOKING MISERABLE, IS SCRUBBING THE SINK WITH A PAIR OF ORDINARY PANTS AND SOME KITCHEN CLEANER.

VOICEOVER MAN (CONT'D)
We all know how dads like their pants to serve a multitude of purposes, and with the tremendous cleaning power of Vodka Pants everyday domestic chores can become a joy.

DAD, NOW LOOKING CHEERFUL, SCRUBS AWAY WITH ONLY A PAIR OF VODKA PANTS.

DAD
(slurring)
I never thought cleaning could be so much fun!

FROM BEHIND, WE SEE THAT DAD ISN'T WEARING ANY PANTS.

VOICEOVER MAN
And when you feel like taking a break, you can just ring them out-

DAD RINGS THE LIQUID OUT INTO A GLASS, RAISES IT TO THE CAMERA AND DRINKS IT.

VOICEOVER MAN (CONT'D)
-And have a drink. (Beat) Vodka Pants can also double up as a shammy cloth. But whatever you do, don't let dad use them to clean the windows.

DAD, FOAMING AT THE MOUTH, SMIRKS AND WAVES FROM UP A LADDER.

VOICEOVER MAN (CONT'D)
Or wash the car.

THE CAR IS SAT IN THE GARAGE. DAD, MOUTH WIDE OPEN AND STUFFED WITH THE VODKA PANTS, IS PASSED OUT IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT WHILE EXHAUST FUMES ARE BEING FED INTO THE CAR THROUGH A TUBE.

A TENTATIVE COUPLE OF BEATS, THEN ANOTHER PSEUDO-FANCY PHOTO OF VODKA PANTS FLASHES ONTO THE SCREEN.

VOICEOVER MAN (CONT'D)
Order now and for a limited time only we'll send them to you directly! (Beat) Vodka Pants - they'll make you feel like you could fly.

DAD FALLS FROM THE LADDER.

DAD
ARGHH!

VOICEOVER MAN
(sped up)
Warning: may contain magnesium and other additional nitrates.

END

I'm pleased with this sketch, even at its first draft (going to rewrite it a couple more times later).

Would be great to know what others think. :)

Hey Marooned

It's a bit confusing, I think. First bit should be a proper spoof advert so start with the benefits of vodka pants, rather than starting with the shammy cloth idea, and give us a couple of 'standard' benefits. Then the warning about 'other' uses.

The 'new' Vodka pants bit is a separate follow-up sketch for later on in the same episode so write a similarly-structured sketch (with the benefits of how non-Vodka pants are better than Vodka pants) and then the warnings afterwards.

Hope that helps

Dan

Hi Dan,

I was thinking about turning the "new Vodka Pants" bit into a separate sketch, so it's handy to hear it from someone else.

Were there any parts that you found funny?

Thanks,

Josh.

The brandy pants was mildly amusing but not really, no. I think the idea is good, but you need to have (1) a twist on its use as vodka, (2) a twist on its use as pants, (3) a twist on using them together then the warning-y stuff.

Dan

I can't add much more to Dan's great feedback but the only thing I found really funny (the gross element) was him drinking his own shit water. But, I think it's the type of sketch that would do much better filmed that on the page.

I've just changed it to the second draft. Would be great to know what you think of the changes.

Thanks,

Josh.

I like it I can imagine it being a 'answer the question that follows this clip' in Shooting Stars.
I thought it was funny throughout, and the window cleaning idea was a good ending, I would have ended it there though.

Thanks, Tom. :)

With regards to the ending, I agree with you about finishing it at the window cleaning part but the punchline would definitely need to be stronger. And the last part about the "shit water" (as Will Cam so elegantly put it) could work really well in a follow-up sketch.

Better, but still a bit short. There's a line/observation in the middle that's missing I reckon.

Oh, and as he's wringing them out, you need a behind shot of his bare ass :)

Always classic. :D

I'll keep working at it.

Just thought, when he's (clearly blotto) cleaning the windows, have him put it in his mouth and suck like a kid's blanket.

Dan

I've only seen this latest draft but It's a funny quirky sketch & I enjoyed reading it.

Steve,

Thanks for that. :)

I'm away this weekend but I'll give it another rewrite when I'm back.

Yes.

Now write some more stuff.
