Peter Sellers - 30th anniversary of death

I hope the BBC does a fitting tribute to him, nothing less than a whole evening at least given over to him on BBC Two will suffice. It falls on a Saturday as well so there really are no excuses for not commemorating one of our very greatest ever comic genii, perhaps the very greatest. They owe it to him, especially after the pretty damning biopic they commissioned five years ago.

I want to see one Pink Panther Film (preferably the 2nd); at least one pre Pink Panther Film, let's say I'm Alright Jack; one of his 60s screwball comedies, preferably I Love You Alice B Tolkas, because it still isn't on DVD; one documentary of the man and of course some snippets from his equally amazing radio career. Not asking much considering who we are talking about here...are you listening auntie? Wake up!

Do you like my Peter Sellers emoticon?

Or, as Gavin knows him, Peter Who?

:D

Gentlemen, this thread is a respectful one. I'm sure there are others threads more suited for sixth form prattle. Good morning.

Prattle prattle.

The schedule for that weekend doesn't suggest any such tribute. Of course the man is absolutely worthy of some kind of significant celebration, but I don't think it's going to happen. You better get on to the Beeb!

We should celebrate his birth instead. Marking his death is morbid and sounds like we're dancing on his grave.

Yes,we could do that.

Hear, hear. I totally agree. A Sellers tribute should be on the Beeb. Even a radio one will do.

Have you got in touch with his heiress (Cassie Unger) yet James? She's still single and quite well off too.

Yes it is. Maybe not in your local DVD store, but it can be bought via Amazon or eBay (search with 'Toklas' and not 'Tolkas'). Whereas Ghost in the Noonday Sun and The Fiendish Plot of Dr Fu Manchu have curiously not been released on DVD.

This is probably the most coverage Sellers will get this week:

The BBC article doesn't mention that the Sellers fortune is now with one Cassie Unger, an American girl, who inherited it from her grandmother (Lynne Frederick's mother).

Thanks for the tip. I added her a Facebook friend. That's as far as the romance has gone. She's only six years older then me. I'm in with a chance Lovey

Sadly it looks like the TV schedulers are ignoring this anniversary. Both Radio 2 and Radio 4 have lined something up though...

I will be tuning in to both. Shame there's not a TV tribute but these two shows look very interesting and they're both different so it should be a fitting tribute to one of the finest comic actors ever.
