British Comedy Guide

Under-rated or new comedians

Just wanted to throw this one out to you lot to see if anyone agrees that Milton Jones, Gary Delaney, Adam Bloom, Tony Cowards, David Schneider, Mike Gunn, Stephen Grant, Matt Green and Daniel Maier are all rather funny.

Feel free to tell me which you agree with or why you think I could not be any more wrong.

Some good names there. David Schneider's hardly a new comedian though. And you do realise Tony Cowards is a user of this very board?!

I know Schneider's been around for a good while but I think he could be classed as under-rated and no, I didn't know Tony was on here, at least this should get me in his good books Smarmy

You're quite right. Sorry, I missed the "or" in your title.

Does he go by the name of davegiz? ;)

he wishes he was me, I reckon he's got some sort of joke writing OCD, how he gets anything done in the real world is beyond me! Pleased

I write a miniscule fraction of what he comes up with but on the upside my tweets won't take up a full page on your screen if you were so kind as to follow me ;)
@dave_giz

(wow my 1st ever self plug ........... I feel dirty)

Haven't heard of some of those people, and not familiar with most. Milton Jones is definitely underrated though.

Schneider's got his own little bit on Big Brother's Little Brother.

Not sure if it's daily or weekly.

Did you come across a lot of those through Twitter?

I do like Adam Bloom though.

Yes I did, it has really opened my eyes to comedy, Gary Delaney in particular seems to be very highly thought of amongst professional funnyists.

I just looked him up, I have never seen him before in my entire life!

I think I've heard of him though, or maybe that's Steve Delaney.

I think Gary Delaney got in the top 5 of that Mother in Law Jokes competition, that's where I first saw his name.
He's also on a podcast called News With Jokes Which I've listened to.
It's not really my cup of tea but it is on iTunes so that's quite impressive.

I'm on iTunes. Don't mean jack.

I really like what I've seen of Stephen Carlin. Smart, but with a nice understated manner. Very much looking forward to seeing him at Edinburgh next month.

Firstly, cheers davegiz, for putting me in such esteemed company, I've got some way to go yet before I'm in the same bracket as most of those guys.

Secondly, yes I think I do suffer from some sort of joke OCD, it's both a blessing and a curse, it means I produce a lot of material but it is also something I can't really turn off, I see the joke in everything and sometimes have to bite my tongue when jokes wouldn't really be appropriate!

Apologies if during one of my Twitter joke bursts I fill up your timeline, I'm trying to regulate myself so that it's more of a drip-drip feed of gags now rather than massive outbursts!

As for Gary Delaney, he's a truly excellent joke writer, probably the best in the country right now. If anyone is heading up to Edinburgh this year for the Festival I'd advise seeing his show, "Purist" .
