He played the keyboard player.

A-ha! I see. Thank you.

I found it, contreversaly, the best episode of the series so far. The countdown stuff I found clever and slightly funny but laughed out loud at this one 'What do you think Jen's a Monster?'.

Very good, keep up the good work.

Oh and Black Books, trendy.... haha hahah haha haha haha hahahah... lol... Teary. Laughing out loud

Trendy.

Anyway, the bit that made me laugh was when Roy said 'Just say it's great -- that's all artists want to hear', not because it was particularly funny itself, but mostly cos didn't somebody say that about Linehan somewhere around here? Maybe he's having a pop :)

No. Nothing's changed.

You can tell him you like everything he has ever done apart from one show and he will still tell you to shut up!

Deeply ironic, as this is the same bloke who started the 'Bad Movie Club' to mock films he didn't like.

But did he contact the writer or director of the film to tell them directly? Possibly not.

Linehan has a long history of wanting his fans to tell him how wonderful he is.

It's all a bit sad really. But if he can't handle criticism of any kind you'd think he'd have enough self-awareness not to organise internet pisstakes of other people's work. Or he should just have a twitter account to announce when his stuff is going to be on, as he can't really handle anything apart from sycophancy.

Then again, he's such a desperate man that he's started to ask his fans to help him write the unfunny bits of his show.

I think, deep down, he knows that this series is rubbish* and is really angry with himself!

(*The cast certainly know it, the main three are practically sleepwalking through their lines)

I thought this episode was back on form, actually.
Very funny.

Quite frustrating this week. A lot of bits that started to get into really funny territory, but then they dropped away with no pay-off. Still, nice to be back in the office; that's the show's real weakness in that Linehan's been taking them out of that comfort zone too often, and for too long.

An improvement on the whole, but still not what it has previously proved that it can be.

As for Linehan being on a downward spiral? Possibly. I'd like to see him going back to working with a writing partner.

He co-wrote the Count Arthur TV pilot - but I don't think that's quite what you're thinking of.

If you mean Bill Bailey's long hair, I don't think anyone on this earth would describe Bill or his look as trendy.

I would. ;)

Leaving aside the question of whether Linehan is guilty of this, I'd say that far from being surprising, the behaviour you describe is all too common. Those who 'like to dish it out' very often "can't take it themselves". Maybe it's all part of the same insecurity thing, wanting to both drag others down, and elevate yourself.

As I said though, did he contact the creators of these 'bad films' directly and tell them they were rubbish? No, so it's different. If he gets narked when strangers tell him his works rubbish, fair enough.

Did he do something to your Mother? You sound a touch bitter there.

Stott's dander's up! (*tries not to stare at Stott's dander*)

Not at all!

I liked Father Ted a lot and thought the 'disabled toilet episode' of the IT Crowd (a.k.a The good episode) was superb.

Saying that the 4th series is rubbish is an opinion and saying that Linehan is thin-skinned (based on his comments on the internet) is a fact.

Bitterness has nothing to do with it. Although answering any criticism with "You're bitter" is just the kind of thing Linehan would say!

Agreed. It's silly to label any kind of criticism as jealousy or bitterness. I have enormous respect for Linehan - anybody responsible for Father Ted is clearly due enormous respect - but the fact is The IT crowd is hugely patchy, and this fourth series has been frustratingly bad at times.
