making money out of comedy writing

Laughing out loud

One way of making monies from it, I learned today, is working for Murf Media. They supply showprep documents for radio stations and it includes round-ups of stories plus several "one-liners" for useage of less capable radio peoples. They have started looking for new writers and voicers, so if anybody's interested head over to www.mediauk.com and all the details are there. :)

The offices of Murfmedia exploded todat after recieving 3,000,000,000 embittered demands for work.

Write a sketch for Newsjack.

Dan

Then sell some heroin.

This is how soot started off in the business, I believe...

Bunch of arse now I'll never sell a version of that sketch.

For those who have made money out of comedy writing - after you began taking writing seriously, how long was it before you made your first reasonable amount of money?

Well what's reasonable?

I was making money after 6 weeks. But it's not the amount more the reliability that counts,

Well, I've been writing what could be considered comedy for about a year and a half now and I've just made my first £100 from a stand-up who wants me to write with him.

Pretty hard to top 6 weeks! Do you mind if I ask who you were writing for?

News Revue./ Treason Show

£100 from a Standup? I'm on that must be pretty standard.

NR/TS if you put in the time and read the papers can be a nice bit of pocket money.

Hopefully it'll be a good learning curve for me, and hopefully he'll get some decent material out of it.

Sootyj, when are those two shows next around?

Hi Marooned. Both shows are continuous. TR monthly and NR weekly. They both have websites with details of how to submit material.
