That Mitchell And Webb Look - Series 4 Page 4

Quote: Steve Sunshine @ July 3 2010, 12:53 AM BST

I've only watched one episode of series 2 so far.
And there were definitely a few sketches that weren't that great.

I think the best of Big Train is excellent.
But like the Fast show I think there is a fair bit of it that isn't that great.

The first series is best, but really both series are full of some of the best sketches ever broadcast; and it's sooooo much better than the bloody Fast Show. In my opinion, of course. It's right up there, shoulder to shoulder, with shows like Not Only But Also, A Bit Of and Python.

I did see the first series.
And thought it was very good at the time.

I bought the DVD so will watch the rest of the second series soon.
Did love the too many Cooks spoil the Broth sketch.

I like plenty of content in the comedy zone, but it must ride the zeitgeist, or be zeitgeist relevant.

The fact is, and it is a fact, no one here can adequately state a clear hypothesis against what Gervais states. That says a lot.

Truly awful sketch content (which is a truly inferior form also - and is seen as such by the genuine movers in the industry also).

zeitgeist is so passee.

Incidentally you can't argue a hypothesis against something. If you are going to be pretentious at least buy a dictionary.

Content? Zeitgeist relevant? Do you really talk like that?

The reason nobodies "adequately stated a clear hypothesis" against what you're saying is we haven't got a clue what you're on about. What are the shows you have a problem with? And why, specifically? Oh, and try to give the answer without reverting to media-wank speak.

Why is a sketch show inferior to other forms of comedy? If a comedy works, it works. It shouldn't matter what form it comes in. Is 'Big Top' superior to M&W simply because it's a sitcom? You don't half talk a lot of poo, Jimmy.

And who are these 'genuine movers'? You probably hate this too but The League of Gentlemen started out as a sketch show/sitcom hybrid, becoming less sketchy as it went along. And yet, most people prefer the series when it resembled a sketch show more.

A lot of the sketches seem to go on and on, drumming home the same joke, the cricket rules sketch ( http://ishare.rediff.com/video/Entertainment/Mitchell-and-Webb-Cricket/328066 ) in particular sticks in my mind for this reason.

Actually, that sketch first appeared in That Mitchell and Webb Sound, so it had been around for sometime before it appeared on TV.

Oh right, I must admit I haven't consumed any TM&WS.

I prefer The Fast Show, but Big Train comes second. Not sure if I have a 3rd favourite sketch show.

I thought series 3 of TM&WL look was the best one so far. Series one had some great sketches, but I thought series 2 was quite weak.

I prefer The Fast Show,

I loved it at the time, but having not really seen it since it seems to have worn badly in my own memory, for some reason. Though obviously I still love things like Ted And Ralph.

It holds up pretty well apart from a few characters which didn't make sense to me at the time.

Mark seems to have forgotten 'Fish & Cushion', one of the best sketches ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B80SyRmtbdI

Dan

I still think that show they did back in 2001 for Play UK was way better.

I rented that on DVD a few years ago, and was very disappointed, almost angry!
