New Bill Hicks film

Anyone one else watched it? What did you think?

Saw it a couple of weeks ago, one of the directors turned up for a Q&A at the end.

I saw the new Denis Leary film so I don't need to see this one.

Heh.

Yeah Leary performed it better but Hicks had more original stuff.

Oh My God. Must watch!!! Bill Hicks is my hero!

I saw it a few weeks ago (sudden downpour forced our hand).

It's a fairly bog-standard documentary. The animation techniques they used on the old photos were quite engaging at first, but they soon got old. Bill's story is certainly interesting, but somehow the anecdotes and talking heads felt a bit laboured and tired: indeed, I think I'd read most of it before in Love All the People and other biogs.

The best bits of the film were undoubtedly the clips of his routines on stage, which begs the question: why not just watch one his standup DVDs?

6/10

I liked the way the documentary goes into a lot of detail about his early stand-up career from the breast-fed on fakies type stuff to being encouraged by the audience to take lots of drink and drugs on stage.

The filmmakers had access to film footage I've not seen on DVD, YouTube etc. Would have been great to see more of that.
