Last of Summer Wine to end? Page 4

I know a number of octopuses who think it is now shit.

It was, during Brian Wilde's first stint in the show, a classic sitcom, but did it ever outstay its welcome.

I don't trust the opinion of any 8 limbed beaked amphibian.

Stick to cuttle fish you calamari bastards.

Octopuses are actually highly intelligent creatures, and therefore have doubtless long ago given up on BBC One in its entirety.

Quite. It may be due to poor digital reception in the Pacific Ocean, meaning they can only recieve BBC Two.

No, I was just making the point that it is a bit patronising to say that the show is catering to old people.

No it's not. Arguably what chipolata actually said - that it "appeals" to them - may be, but to say that the show caters to them is fairly accurate. That it perhaps missed the mark and is not entirely successful in its endeavour towards that particular share of the audience is true, however.

Hey look, I agree, nowadays more than in the past it caters for older people. It's a genteel sitcom and there have been many sitcoms about old people that cater for the masses. But the show is predictable, as someone said sloppily written, totally out of touch, boring, the dialogue is stale and often refers to bad marriages or supposed exploits of the old fellas. It's lost it's balls to be honest. I hope the ending is a ballsy one.

Look - be fair! Maybe they just finally want to retire - the actors that is.

And the BBC could just start repeating them right from the start and nobody would notice and they've got 30 odd years of material..

(Incidentally I remember watching the first episode when it started)

You old man.

Was this the original 'Show about Nothing'?

Come to think of it there wasn't much hugging or learning either.

Could it be that this is the Ur-Seinfeld?

There was a small article in my newspaper about Last of the Summer Wine ending and they joked that the first thing that was broadcast on TV when it was invented by John Logie Baird was an 18 year old LOTSW episode, haha.

I really hope the final episode is a proper send-off for the show, not just another 'normal' episode.

Same here. Clegg marrying Aunty Wainwright would be a good ending.

Still amazed Clegg was married once Huh?

Clegg and Howard having a civil partnership would be even more of a bold ending for it.

True Howard does spend a lot of time over 'Cleggie's' Laughing out loud

Clegg and Cameron is more likely.
