Also, I know there's just as much chance of the ball landing in a number twice-in-a-row, as there is for it to land on a different number, but, I bet if you played the game regularly, you'd notice that twice-in-a-row was a pretty rare occurance, probably happening about once every hour, on average.
On average I can tell you it happens once every 37 spins.
Not only wouldn't you be likely to make a profit, it's impossible to make one. Each spin there are two possibilities - you have the winning number covered or you don't.
If you don't, you have staked 36 so you lose 36.
If you do, you have staked 36 and have a bet of 1 winning at 35/1 so you get 36 back and win nothing.
