The England Thread... Page 3

Yes, I believe I've heard that they don't get anything for playing for the country.

Capello gets 5 million a year, I know that.

That works out at 5 million per goal, so far.

Well sure, you have to pay the manager, I thought for the players it was more of a prestige thing.

Hark at us, two Doctor Who nerds who know nothing about football discussing England! Rolling eyes

What would have to happen in order for England to be out of the competition?

The knockout stage has just arrived a little earlier than planned.

Are they out then?

*is clueless*

Not if we win Wednesday.

Ah, okay.
Who are they playing? Brazil?

I heard it was 6 million.

Tomorrow's headlines...
I'm going with "Who do you think Roo are?"

Yes, I believe I've heard that they don't get anything for playing for the country.

Twenty years ago, each player received a token fee - about £400 - but the money went straight to charity.

Not sure of the situation these days, though.

They get free Marks & Spencer suits at the very least.

Jimmy Greaves said that, in the Sixties, players would have to take their own towel, and would go down to London travelling third class on the train. If they wanted to travel Second or First Class, they'd have to pay the extra themselves.

No jokes about the 28 day return policy please. :O

The best England team I've seen was the one created by Terry Venables.
They played fluid football when they could & he somehow gave them the confidence they needed.
I thought Capello had pulled the same trick.
But I can't see this team beating Holland 4-1.

I don't think he wanted to leave either.
But the suits decided that his reputation was unseemly & they brought Graham Taylor in.

The rest is tragedy.
