Frankie Boyle - an apology on behalf of the Scots Page 4

Hee, Timelords are what I thought as soon as the word genocide came up. Quite sad really.

No because that isn't really the aim. It never has been, the Nazis were the first people to try it. But generally even the most perverted opressors wanted slave labor and comfort women.

IOr do you really want to play the dreary game of swop the dictionary quote?

No I just want to join in the debate of an issue where people use the normal definitions of things. Sorry for being dreary .., and how do Thugees fit into this? Anyway night night!

What's the normal definition? Do you belong to some sort of league of evil? Do you spend your evenings chiding Blofeld or the Mandarin for mistaking an Android for a robot?

Primo Levi used the term Holocaust as Nazi crimes against of humanity were qualitatively diferent to genocidal crimes. And as such needed a fresh term.

Hence it's application to Rwanda but not to Cambodia.

Or do you any your fellow super villains have a better term?

The normal means the normal. It's really not complicated. :)

Normal by what means?

Only the way you use that word seems to mean well "ignorant."

Exactly! Of course they wouldn't, not if there was a race or black culture element! This point shows up their argument to be totally flawed, and shows them to be hypocrites. You want edgey controversial jokes, then there's no more edgy controvesial than racist material.

There's a difference between racist material and material about race.

Racist: "What do you call one black man at the bottom of the river? A good start." (Implies an underlying truth that white people want black people dead.)

Race: "I love black people but I hate niggers..." (Implies an underlying truth that black people hate the bad reputation they get from a subsection of idiot black people)

If Frankie Boyle made a joke that was only funny if you genuinely disliked taxi drivers, or Cumbrians, or prostitutes, and genuinely wanted them gone or dead, then you could possibly compare it to a racist joke.

Otherwise, probably not.

The big problem with that argument is that it assumes that all jokes in your second, 'race' category are complimentary to their subjects, whereas they probably aren't. Boyle's done jokes about gun crime and drugs in London and it is obvious the subjects are black - technically, under the strict of rules of PC this is racist! Oh yes! It is using a negative stereotype of an ethnic minority.

The opportunist Boyle knows this and so he adds on some cool 'black power line' or statement to fool everyone. And when he does more overt racist jokes about Islamists and even Mohammed, he is hiding behind the 'terrorists are fair game' mantle and 'so is religion'. Boyle's comedy is all about joking about what he's not supposed to, that is why he does it, he is an impact comedian. And a racist, an everthingist.

That's a bit hash, zooo!

N.B. surely 4 Lions shows that the "white, liberal, nonexistent elite" are more than happy to rip the piss from ethnic minorities. If it's in context and funny? And hasn't it always been a bit of a cliched truth that members of communities are better at joking about their own community than outsiders. I mean Chapelle and Rock excelent comics but his material pretending to be white is universally terrible.

Apropo of nothing.

I had a lot of deep, guilty laughs at Family Guy last night. Where Chris tried to seduce a girl with Downe's Syndrome.

Nope. The Chris Rock routine I cited was definitely not complimentary, but it had a lot of merit regardless.

That's the most Irish thing I've heard all day.

And when he does more overt racist jokes about Islamists and even Mohammed,

Oh, Islam is a race now, is it?

What about Buddhism?

People who seem to think that Frankie Boyle is a comedian who's schtick is just to say the unsayable are f**king wrong. He has a clear agenda (like all comedians) which he has not veered off for years.
