Frankie Boyle - an apology on behalf of the Scots

Once again he seems to have got himself into hot water re his gags about the Cumbria shootings.

Does this sad Scottish twat have his worlds sickest joke book (volume 2) on hand in order to [[Insert current tragic event here]], for a reaction.

Frankie, I am sure, is aware of the difference between funny ha ha, and funny peculiar. Equally there are gasps and laughter resulting from the element of surprise. Then comes the interesting part, where there is laughter through embarrassment, due to the audience feeling uncomfortable with the content.

It would appear that Frankie will go to sickening lengths to get attention, which is nothing short of tragic.

I wish to apologise on behalf of the decent people of Scotland. Few Scots are as bitter as Frankie Boyle. Many are more amusing. Some of those are even accountants.

Sorry Frankie let Scotland down :( Scotland Sick

Why do people go to one of his gigs and then complain about being shocked? That's what he's famous for!

I'm fed up with people complaining about comedians, there's plenty of worse things out there. I'll bet everyone who went to that Hammersmith gig walked past some homeless people, but were they 'shocked' that this still happens?

What was the joke?

:)

Anyone with any sense who goes to a Frankie Boyle gig should know what to expect; the problem is that no-one who with any sense is going to go to a Frankie Boyle gig.

Well the papers report that it was a gag about him understanding why someone might want to shoot a taxi driver, but I don't think it's fair to take a joke out of context and try to analysis it.

I'm 99% sure I would have laughed if I'd heard it.

It's just a flipping joke. He doesn't mean it literally. None of us who would have laughed think the real life situation is funny. But jokes are - that's the point of them.

Yes, but The Narrative is now in place that states Frankie Boyle is an insensitive shit that has no boundaries. So, it's almost irrelevant what the joke is. Just that this feeds into that storyline.

Indeeeed.

It is a narrative Boyle has worked hard at establishing.

Surely the point of jokes is that, outside of Christmas crackers, few are entirely harmless; that is what makes humour subversive. Almost every time you make a joke you are making a conscious judgement as to whether others might take offence, and whether you are prepared to live with that.

Of course. But I doubt very much out of all the comedians curretly working and touring Britain, that he's the ONLY one whose made a joke about the events in Cumbria.

And if you want to talk insensitive, let's talk about some of the coverage from the very same tabloids currently lambasting Boyle. Who, incidentally, I'm no great fan of.

Possibly, yes.
But that's not so for the audience, they don't have the time to think about all that, they've already either laughed or not laughed.

Agreed. The tabloids are the Dead Sea of moral high ground.

I think that taking offence on behalf of someone else is itself offensive.

Damn right! What's the Holocaust got to do with me?

If you want to apologise for anyone, apologise for the idiots who throw hissy fits about this kind of thing.
