3 years, 2 months ago: discovered this site after discovering Green Wing after discovering the Netherlands (or Holland to you British types). It turned out that the Netherlands had already been discovered some time earlier, and the Dutch had even got to Australia before the Brits. All this worshipping the mother country and her television output was clearly misplaced. (It also turned out Green Wing was shown in Australia on pay TV, which no-one has.)
3 years, 1 month ago: fixed TV reception so that BBC1 and BBC2 weren't headache inducing. Discovered HIGNFY, NMTB, M&W etc. etc.
2 years, 9 months ago: started Dutch class so forced to watch Dutch TV. Discovered De Lama's, Draadstaal etc. etc.
2 years, 5 months ago: created an account after much lurking, clearly with the intention of posting.
21 months later: First post!!!! In the Foreign Comedy forum
Today: finally introduces herself. Hiiii!
Anyway, I grew up with the ABC in Australia (hence lots of BBC exposure, usually several years after the UK, and a lot more Goodies exposure than your average Brit, so I hear), and have now found that comedy is basically the only thing that relaxes me. I try to get to live standup whenever I can, but I don't live in Amsterdam so it's a) mostly Dutch-language b) once a month at the most. Saw Paul Merton's Impro Chums last weekend in Amsterdam in their only show outside the UK which was brilliant.
I don't write sketch/sitcom, but do enjoy the "humourous" columnists in the UK papers and have been told that my expat blog is funny, which is annoying as it wasn't supposed to be funny. I'm now trying out some different things, taking some risks, and trying to laugh at my very strange expat life. If anyone else is interested in that form of writing, then please let me know -- I don't think there's a place for it in Critique and I'd love to swap ideas every now and then.
