I don't really pay much attention to who writes what, but there does seem to be a lot of "stunt casting" this year. And if you're going down that route I'd rather they went for writers like Jimmy McGovern or Paul Abbot. Chaps who understand drama.

Pointless post on an internet forum, there's something new!
Having not seen the episode, or know much about it, apart from the fact it features Van Gogh and a monster, I obviously don't have too much that could be considered worthwhile to say about it; beyond the facts that Curtis would not have been a writer I would have approached for Who, and it looks like the monster is CGI again, which I hate.

One reason I'm happy that he's got Gaiman for next year; a writer with a proven track record with fantasy.
I can't believe they wouldn't at least have been approached at some point, certainly since RTD is apparently very good friends with Abbot. I can only imagine they don't want to do it, or don't have the time.

Actually Godot, seeing as how you're already predisposed to hating the this weeks offering from Curtis, do you think you'll actually be able to watch it and give it a fair crack, or is it already a write off, and actually watching it isn't going to change that fact? At the very least it must face an uphill battle.
F**k Paul Abbot, he wears a gasmask now. Two series of 'Knocking Off' (sublime drama) used him up. State of Play is overrated, prickteasing pap - and shivery Bill Nighy's in it. Shameless is disgusting poverty-porn.
Jimmy McGovern on the other hand is an outstanding writer, but I doubt that he could write well for the show.
This is the real problem that I have with Moffat and RTD - the difficulties of making it work are out there. There have been symposia on Who - there are books of essays - I've got one on my shelf at home. What's the point of bloody-mindedly trying to do your own thing only to find you have to go back to what other people have found out the hard way.
John Nathan-Turner resisted bringing in Robert Holmes for years. Eric Saward wrote most of his Who scripts without having seen the Hinchcliffe era. Eventually they both realised that other people knew how to make the show work before them.

It's not bloody mindedness, they're just making the show the way they want, they don't have some vendetta against the way the show was written in the past!

Never liked Paul Abbot. And McGovern seems to be a little on the sentimental side for my liking.
It's been a long time since either of those congregated with the people they write about, methinks.

Actually, now Gaiman has had a go, why not Alan Moore? Or even hit up Joss Whedon, see if he'd fancy giving it a go?

Actually Josh Whedon's a good choice. Never into Buffy but Doll House is an interesting show.

You know me Stotty, always fair. I don't like Curtis because I think he's overrated - my dislike was re-fueled the other night when the BBC re-screened the Blackadder Rides Again love-in. What did he say? "The trouble was Ben and I's real love was pop music, so all we wanted to do was discuss tracks from Madonna's True Blue album". I mean double Christ.
I'm only angry because I want us all to have great episodes to watch again and again. Seeing the trailer of his ep you can see that he's just repeating all the mistakes that have been made before with historical/famous people/alien-on-earth stories. What is the point of that?
How can I take him seriously. It's like a bloke turning up at Heathrow with Leonardo's flying machine and a grin on his face. We know it won't fly. Curtis's eppy will be a f**king great pile -up - it can't realistically be anything else.
