Greatest denouements (spoilers within!) Page 4

Ha, good point.

Excellent, now I can feel less guilty about giving away the endings to hundreds of films. Now, where is my Halliwell's Guide...

Who can offer more interesting endings to well-known productions?

GREAT ONES:

The Prisoner (original) - but only after I had the exlanation.

I, Claudius - a wonderful and fond send-off to Jacobi's brilliant character.

Manhattan - for its ambiguous bitter-sweet ending - Despite the "Will she wait for him? Will he?" it ends with a backdrop of inescapable sadness and that's great.

BlackAdder Goes Forth - utter utter poetry in sitcom.

Father Ted - essentially a really touching end, that didn't need the tacked-on montage of previous shows. But I guess they were covering their bases retrospectively after the death of Dermot Morgan.

Futurama - series 4 end - was rather nice.

CRAP ONES:

Frasier. Cobblers. Melodramatic to the squelchy max.

In general, Hollywood Ending cliches really pee me off - "It's over, so lets explain. Hang on, it's all starting up again so we don't need denoument until the sequel / prequel / etc."

The Roseanne ending was f**king shit.

The only positive thing was at least they tried to do something different/creative. But it was awful. Pissed on all the seasons that went before.

Fatal Attraction - Glenn Close regains consciousness to find herself trapped in the middle of Watership Down where she is tried and executed by Big Wig for crimes against lagomorph-anity.

Fight Club had a good ending. I read the novel first, and it was quite a surprise.

I remember being quite impressed with the end of The Shawshank Redemption, when trhe poster is removed and suddenly this huge tunnel is revealed.

And The Usual Suspects, that always impresses, even if you know who the bad guy is.

The end/start of Memento was good, too.

I remember not knowing quite how to take the end of The Prestige. I liked the film, but was taken a bit by surprise when the ending went all science fiction on my unsuspecting arse.

Great film. There's a function on the DVD that allows you to watch the film backwards. I haven't got round to it yet, but it's on a list.

It's quite chilling. You always assume that Hugh Jackman is the good guy, then at the end you realise he's drowned all these alternative versions of himself.
