That term is unknown here. I guess the closest we have are white kids trying to act like black thug gangsters. But my experiences with chavs always featured public drinking and you won't really find that here.

My experience with chavs in the UK were accompanied by public intoxication, loud/rude behavior and intimidation. Those aren't really characteristic of white trash. White trash are merely ignorant and sloppy, but not threatening.

Yes, they are threatening and unpleasant, a shameful blot on Britain's landscape. But I suspect the USA has just as many undesirables.

Chav doesn't have to mean that they're threatening, when I've seen Jerry Springer, I think of those sort of people as like 'chavs'. It doesn't mean drunk with a knife, to me it basically means the same as scummy.
