Wow I'm not sure if I ever read 'Death in the Family'. Damn now I'm going to have to go out and buy it.

My work here is done. *walks away rubbing hands and laughing manically* Mwahahahahaha!!

The Joker isn't the real villain in that story.

:D

As much as I hate recommeding Play.com this is a bargain.

V For Vendetta £9.99

Or the same Price at Forbidden Planet. :)

Did anyone read the John Cleese version of an english Superman?

I'm plowing my way through all the Hellboy collections; love 'em! The films were okay, but they didn't capture the feel of the comics at all.

I may go and get some Chloe Noonan and/or Solipistic Pop tomorrow, depending on where in London I end up. I'm very excited about the Solipsistic Pop 3 line up.

I used to read a lot of comics/graphic novels. I have an attic full of StarsWars/2000AD/Starlord/Marvel etc. which my wife is always trying to make me get rid off. When we first got married 20 years ago she wouldn't let me bring the 100's of football comics I had at my Mums (Shoot/Roy of the Rovers/Scoop/Match) and made me bin them. One day, when she is not looking..........

One of my favourites was the graphic novel Maus - what a corker

Yes it was terrible.

Crushingly, datedely,, witlessly terrible.

Ever since he went into therapy he stopped being funny. Now he keeps marrying women and losing money in divorces so he keeps having to perform. Like a scrofulous monkey on a Spanish beach.

It's very powerful. Especially when you deconstruct how he uses the medium.

Might I reccomend In the Shadow of No Towers.

Bit expensive and it's huge.

The films were aces and Ron Perlman really captured the character.

But the comics have this really weird, dry wit. There's something in themthat's inexplicable but more than a little addictive. The art is very cool and dynamic.

Rummaging through the book section of a charity shop (more of a warehouse) a couple of weeks ago I found two large boxes filled with old (1980s) Judge Dredd/2000AD comics. Just out of curiosity, I asked the saleslady how much; "five dollars for the two boxes," she replied. I have never liked Judge Dredd/2000AD, so I didn't buy them. Probably should have and put them on ebay. Alas, the shop had no stacks of Private Eye, Mad Magazine, Viz or Carl Barks Disney.

I enjoyed the films, but they didn't have the horror, despair and sadness that's present in a lot of those books. Ron Perlman is of course the perfect person to play him. Mignola's art is beautiful, yes; he should get his arse in gear and start doing the art for them again instead of having others ape him and Mignola just on writing duties.

I'm waiting for the first couple of 'The Walking Dead' books to arrive, I've heard that series is great, plus I love zombies. Daniel Clowes has a new book out too, 'Wilson', which I think I'll pick up soon.

I always the horror was very down played, kind of background sort of thing.

N.B. Daniel CLowes, I so loved David Boring.

The horror seeps out of every frame for me in the comics; an old, creeping horror. Like I say, I like the films, but they just seemed to drop that element and ramped up the laughs. Decent films still though.

Recommendations, please! I really enjoyed Persepolis, Lost at Sea, the Scott Pilgrim series and the Chloe Noonan series, and I'm not really into stabby shooty violenty. Thank yooou!

daniel clowes david boring (read it before ghost world)
