What Will Will You Win?!

I wanted to create a spoof quiz show with the opportunity to provide me with lots of feed line setups and punchline answers. I got a bit distracted. So here's an idea (formed into a sketch). Want to know if it's worth going with the theme of the Quiz show or just stick with a generic theme and concentrate on the funny questions/answers? Anyway...

INT. STUDIO

A cheesy JOHNNY greets the audience.

JOHNNY
Hello everybody, welcome to the show, where you win from someone you don't know. As we play, What Will Will You Win? With me Johnny Fortune.

The audience applauds.

JOHNNY
OK, let's introduce our contestants.

Each contestant is introduced one by one.

The audience applauds. Julie is distracted by a fly.

JOHNNY
(V.O)
Julie, from Leeds.

Julie grabs the fly and eats it.

The audience applauds. Mike is dressed as Batman.

JOHNNY
(V.O)
And Mike, from Essex.

JOHNNY
That's an interesting outfit, Mike.

MIKE
Thank you, it was my mother's.

JOHNNY
Explains the chest plate.

Mike's outfit has huge breast molded plates.

JOHNNY
Give it up for our contestants.

The audience applauds.

JOHNNY
Now let's see what they can win, over to you, Terry.

TERRY
(V.O)
Thanks, Johnny.

Two framed Wills stand on a podium.

TERRY
Our first Will comes from Doris
Crab, who died in an unfortunate
Chip Pan fire incident. Mmm, crisp
and dry! She leaves us, 4 cats, 1
gold necklace and debts worth
£40'000!

The audience applaud.

TERRY
Our next Will-e, is a Lord from
Bimginshile, Lord Hesterton. He was
the last in his blood line, a
recluse and now he lives in a box!
He leaves us with, a million pound
mansion in Bimginshile, £4,000,000
tax-free spending money and 16
luxury cars! Back to you Johnny.

JOHNNY
Thanks, Terry. Let's crack on with
our first round. Fingers on
buzzers.

Johnny looks at Julie.

JOHNNY
Buzzers, Julie. Buzzers. Yes,
that's it. OK. Which Scottish
Biologist discovered the
antibiotic, penicillin in 1923?

Mike buzzes.

MIKE
Was it Batman?

The audience laugh.

JOHNNY
(Laughing)
No, good try though. Julie, it's
over to you.

JULIE
Was it me?

JOHNNY
I'm afraid that's not the right
answer. It was in fact, the King of
Mold - Alexander Fleming.

JOHNNY
Question two: The fictional serial
killer character in the novel
Psycho is Patrick who?

Mike buzzes.

MIKE
Is it Batman?

JOHNNY
Did you say Bateman?

MIKE
No, Batman.

JOHNNY
I'm sorry, that's not quite right. Julie?

JULIE
Batman?

JOHNNY
No, it was Bateman, Patrick
Bateman.

JULIE
I would've never have got that.

JOHNNY
The score so far. Zero, to both
contestants. Question 3: What is
the name and title of the comic
book hero's alias Bruce Wayne?

Both contestants look stumped.

JOHNNY
Come on, I know you know this one Mike.

Mike shrugs.

JOHNNY
You are dressed as him, right now, Mike.

MIKE
Um, is it Bateman?

JOHNNY
No, [sighs] I have to take your
first answer. Julie, who is Mike
dressed up as?

JULIE
Um, pass.

JOHNNY
Batman. Batman is the answer.

CAPTION: 25 minutes later...

Johnny, looking somewhat warn-down goes into the final
round.

JOHNNY
With both contestants on [sighs]
zero. We enter our final round.
Just one question, the first person
to buzz in and answer correctly
will steal their opponents points
and win it all.

Julie is now dressed as Batman, whilst Mike stands in his pants.

JOHNNY
The theme of the question is: The
Answer is not Batman. Who was the
British Prime Minister from
1990-1997?

Mike buzzes.

MIKE
Is it not Batman?

JOHNNY
What?!

MIKE
You said the theme of the question
is: The answer IS not Batman.

Johnny screams and runs at Mike!

CAPTION: We apologize for the technical difficulties we are
currently experiencing.

END.

Pirate

I found that hilarious

Shouldn't it be Which Will Will You Win?

I don't know, should it? Huh?

yea it should

It's mental. In a good way.

If it's meant to be the same kind of pointless comedy as in Bo selecta or the Mighty Boosh, then I can see how people would find this funny.

Doesn't work for me though - (not saying it's not good as it's all subjective) because, obviously it's not a parody of any hugely famous quiz shows or even a mix of them .... and as a spoof.... once the initial discovery that BOTH the contestants are really really really thick, then there's nothing new. The word play is ok but I must admit I did groan when Mike DIDN'T answer Batman to the 3rd question.

But in all honesty.... I think you should video it somehow and show it to a wide variety of people.

Believe me, I don't draw any inspiration from Bo Selecta or Mighty Boosh. This is a basic idea, drafted into a sketch. The idea, as I mentioned above was to use the gameshow format to have setup and punches, kinda of like Two Ronnies' Mastermind. But I got carried away with the Batman thing. What I was really after, is is the Gameshow theme 'Which Will Will You Win' was any good, or is it too distracting and messy within a sketch?

Thanks y'all for the feedback. It's intended for animation, by the way.

The idea of a gameshow where you win other people's inheritance is pretty good. I like the idea. I was, admittedly, distracted by the 2 contestants.

The idea is surreal but personally, I think that's great if it's backed up with some good comedy.

The idea is fine though... and if they were unwittingly lumped with having to pay inheritance tax on their winnings, that would even add a twist.

Thanks. :)

The answer is actually Norman Bates, I think you mean American Psycho. ;)

I liked the surrealness of the sketch but it felt a bit drawn out in places.

Haha, yes. Cheers, Nil.

The concept for the gameshow is clever and the Batman stuff is funny and really well handled. If there is a problem it is, as you suggest, that the Batman stuf drags you away from the original twist of the concept and into generic gameshow spoof territory.

But I laughed plenty.

Cheers, Timbo. Will try again, with more direction. I hope.

Maybe find a way to keep the wills in play a bit more, and you could definitely benefit from dragging the ending back to the wills (the current ending is a bit of a nothing).
