Can you think of any boring cliches in comedy?

Someone overhearing a doctor talking about a plant/dog/dinosaur that is going to die and thinking they are talking about them.

A misunderstanding that results in hilarity.

Mick takes newspaper and starts to read - out loud - the wrong story.
