An American sitcom from the noughties that I also like is The New Adventures Of Old Chrsitine.

I liked that, though I went easier on it than I might have done purely because I'm a big fan of the lead actress. I've just had a look and apparently it's still going! It's had five series now! I thought it must have been cancelled.

1950s - Hancock's Half Hour
1960s - Steptoe and Son
1970s - Dad's Army
1980s - Only Fools and Horses
1990s - One Foot in the Grave
2000s - The Inbetweeners

60s- My dad always goes on about Steptoe and Son so I'll go with that.
70s- Fawlty Towers
80s- Only Fools and Horses
90s- Father Ted
00s- Peep Show with Inbetweeners a close second.

60s: Monthy Python's Flying Circus does it count?

It's a sketch show, so no! :P

Very very tough. I can't pick only one.

Do the Office and Spaced count as 90s or 2000+? Either way, they're gonna be shortlisted for whichever list they stand for. Apart from them...

70s: Fawlty Towers, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em
80s: Only Fools and Horses, Blackadder
90s: Bottom, Father Ted, Alan Partridge (in all series)
00s: A weaker decade for comedy if you ask me.... undecided

1960s - Steptoe and Son

1970s - Rising Damp

1980s - Only Fools and Horses

1990s - The Royle Family

2000s - The Office

I think that's a good selection, apart from the Royle Family as unique as it is.

Cheers Steve. :) What would you have replaced it with?

Not a bad list, Beef Paste Boy. Although I'd substitute Peep Show for The Thick Of It.

With that substitution, Lucas has my list exactly.

I know now that it wasn't to be made out as a sitcom but in the 1970s I lived in a house near Cardiff-by-the sea in San Diego. We used to get the early show on the PBS station. We would have great drinking parties and watch it and laugh our asses off. I know it doesn't belong but we didn't get much BBC back before Sat TV.

This is a tought one. I think for me it would probably be:

1950s: Hancock's Half Hour
1960s: Steptoe and Son
1970s: Dad's Army
1980s: Blackadder
1990s: Father Ted
2000s: Green Wing... or Peep Show... or Outnumbered... or Black Books (it's quite a tough one, isn't it?)

Have I done this yet? I can't remember. Oh well...

1970s Fawlty Towers
1980s Hi-De-Hi and Ever Decreasing Circles (just can't decide between these two)
1990s One Foot in the Grave
2000s Worst Week of My Life (is it a sitcom? Well, I'll pretend it is)

It is, yes!

Top UK sitcoms:

70s:The Likely Lads. The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. Fawlty Towers.
80s:Only Fools and Horses. Blackadder. Yes Minister.
90s:The Office
