Too right Dolly.
It's as if I've never worked for a living or provided for myself.
Or possibly Germany.

What I'm complaining about is that unless I vote Conservative my vote counts for nothing because of the present system and living in an extremely Tory area, where over 60% of the population will always vote Tory, no matter what, because it's what their families have always done.
Quote: Dolly Dagger @ May 12 2010, 9:25 AM BSTTheir choice of politics has nothing to do with the welfare of others and the good of the Nation, only what it means to them - i.e preserving their privileged lifestyles.
Ironically, studies show that the richest nations are not the happiest, not even for the rich. Doing liberal things like closing the poverty gap benefits the rich.

I look at 1st past the post as a workable compromise. It doesn't really choose a government it more provides a rubber stamp for a coalition of; similar minded politicians, civil servants etc.
If you want more involvement then there's more to it than just voting. Join a party get involved, campaign etc. Safe seats have been lost and voting is only a small part of the democratic process.
As for PR. I know from Israel it is a flipping disaster. Religious fanatics running education and religious affairs. A racist immigrant party having foreign affairs and destroying any chance for peace. In 1st past the post they wouldn't have any seats.
Where as with it they manage to stop a majority leftwing party forming a government.
Well, we're just have to see what happens. On the bright side, I'm probably going to be finacially better off.
'cause you're married?

Yep!
(Btw - I didn't mean that everyone who votes Conservative is a braying toff who's never done a day's work in their life. )
