So now the Tories are offering the AV system!
30 all, new Balls please.

The Conservatives appear to internally be resigned to the Lib Dems going with Labour, and the resulting coalition collapsing by October, bringing with it a second election.
I wonder why there is no talk of a Con-Lab coalition with libDem as opposition??

Because that's about as likely as David Dimbleby buggering a panda on live national television.
In policy terms they are closer to one another than either is to the LibDems, but they daren't admit it, otherwise people would realise that they are not being offered a real choice.

Quite possibly the funniest line I've read on the BCG.

Perhaps - but the respective grassroots would be unlikely to give their leaders much support, and the personalities in each of the parties would cause Westminster to implode.
Why are the Lib Dem MPs meeting again shortly?
To discuss the "final" offer given by the Tories?
Looks like the great bluff they played this afternoon won.
They will not risk everything by going in with the second party.
Take a little now and build for the future. They won't gamble for everything and then crumble at the ballot box in the near future.

That's largely my feeling too.
And yes, this meeting tonight is believed to be the ultimate 'decision time' for them.

It's the classic negotiation trick.
I did the same when buying my house.
I went up a few grand. They said no again. I said fine I'll start speaking to the house two doors down.
90 seconds later they were back on the phone and the house was mine.
This is just what the Lib Dems have done.
They will vote tonight and agree to go in with the Tories. It then has to be approved by the national executive, I understand.
I don't think that the Lib Dems are stupid enough to go with Labour and their referendumless overhaul of the electoral system. Removing democracy in order to make things 'fairer'? Yeah, right.
If there was real democracy in this country we would now have a vote to see who controls and presents the various forms of news media in our land.

Ah, but would it be AV, AV Plus or STV?
Watching the slowly changing demeanor of Wm Hague has been great fun. He came strutting out all full of himself on Friday and addressed the cameras as if HE was the Tory leader still. Today he looked almost demure as he tentatively talked to the media. Brown has got one over on the old enemy at last and you can sense the Tory panic. Brown has delivered a knockout blow when he himself was on the ropes. I like it.
