iPhone Apps

Does anyone know who I'd need to contact if I've got an idea for an iPhone app?

I presume there are certain companies who produce these things and it would be better to get in touch with them rather than directly with Apple?

If anyone has any experience in this field please contact me as I want to get something sorted out in time for the Edinburgh Festival.

Hi Tony. Got a contact in a friend of friend kind of way. He made quite a few quid with a couple of apps. Just asked the guy via skype says he'll send me his email. If he remembers to do so I'll PM it to you if you're interested. He also suggests googling 'i-phone app developer' but assume you may have done this already.

I'd recommend telling me your idea... ;)

Cheers, would be very interested to speak to him.

I don't own an iPhone and it's something I know very little about but I want to tie something in with my Edinburgh show and I think it would work quite well.

Anyone got good suggestions for iPhone apps?

I've just downloaded Angry Birds, World of Goo, I was also recommened to try the Night Recorder app, it records any sounds you make during the night. I can't wait to hear just how loud my snoring is.

TV guide. Twitter. Pingchat. Tube Map. Shazam.

Facebook app is my most used.
There's a beautiful game called Osmos.
Tube Map app.
Dragon Dictate.
Flickr.
StumbleUpon.
Hipstamatic.
Shazam.
BBC NEWS.

Stanza is a great book-reader app, if you're so inclined you can get pretty much any book you like free of charge (pm me or Google for a fuller explanation).

The IMDB app is a handy tool when you're thinking of watching a movie; I immediately disregard anything with under a 5.5 rating.

The Guardian app is the daddy for news, but you have to subscribe unless you download from the US app store (pm me, Google etc) :)

Peggle is probably my favourite game, but be warned it is addictive, I've often found myself wasting hours trying to crack one of the seemingly impossible challenges.

Shady puzzles and shift are also pleasing little time-wasters.

Local concerts is another handy app, it announces upcoming gigs for artists stored on your ipod.

You need to register as a developer with Apple. You can do that here. You also have to have an intel mac. The iphone developer registration and tools are free I believe.

Since you've only got an idea you need to find someone who can program in C and C++ to actually make the app. You could try on here, there might be someone you could go into partnership with.

Game - 'Trainyard'. It's really good. I also like the Amazon app as it has a barcode scanner so you can scan a DVD in HMV and see what it costs on Amazon.

As Gerry said the Guardian app works well and isn't on Android. Tango for video calling to iphones that don't have facetime.

;) Angry birds, bubble ball is really addictive, only on level 10.
Nike training looks great, free aswell, tried one exercise ok but never gone back!.

This app has been pulled from the app store, it's PC gone mad :)

I'm not sure but I thought iPhone apps were written in Objective-C?

Also, you don't necessarily need to be able to program to create an iPhone app, depending on how complex it needs to be. If you can build it as a website, there are tools which can convert your site into an app.

I bow to your superior knowledge Griff. If you can build an app with CSS and html I might give it a go.

I've just got my Virtual Mac and iPhone development environment up and running as was looking at writing some apps for work, I am a programmer by trade but not really done much C other than C#, had an idea for a comedy based app too.

Not sure I'd be any good as I am a first time iphone app developer, but if I can help in any way.
