Have you seen the Doctor Who episode Warriors of the Deep?

*wikis*
Peter Davison and some sea monster types? Did they pop on some murkas?

One of the monsters in that episode was a new one, the Myrka. It has been unfairly maligned for being two blokes in a sort-of pantomime dragon costume, which was rather slow moving and looked crap. This still doesn't really do it justice, as its legs and awkward gait are not pictured.

Rio Ferdinand ...?

Yeah ! He's got a ~ for a mouth

Haha.
I imagine it moving a bit like Big Bird from Sesame Street.

That's rich!

Take it outside, Mr Woman Hater!

I've not read all these posts but basically the Burkah is a form of slavery.

The burka is a form of hat.

Banning it is just as pointless as banning hoodies being worn in shopping malls.

When we banned slavery we did it by banning slavery, not by banning chains.

If we want to stop the oppression of women, we need to tackle the cause, not the symptom.

Ban Islam? I think that's going a bit far.

I was thinking more along the lines of banning men ;)

I don't agree with the government telling anyone what they can't wear, it's up to the individual. But then again I don't agree with religion telling people what to wear either, but try telling that to a Celtic or Rangers fan on a old firm day.

I don't think it should be banned, but it should be discouraged because the Burka prevents these women from interacting with others, stops them from chatting to people on the bus, mingling and practitising their language skills and ostracises them from the wider community.

When ever people can make personal decisions for themselves the government should step aside.
But when communal pressure, or communal threats (inlcuding issolation) or just overt expectation then it should step in.
The Burqa is one example.
I suppose if you can prove it's a genuine personal choice. But most of the strongest female proponents have bare heads.
We should not be afraid to help or to judge, we just need the wisdom to know when to do so.

There's nothing to argue here.

It's reasonable to demand in a society that we not hide our faces from others in the street as this is the principal method that we use to communicate or otherwise decode other people's intentions towards us.

All religions are cults. Trekkies don't get it easy, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Jehovahs etc. shouldn't either.

The government already has a large say in what you wear. Many modes of dress are illegal.

Religious tolerance is a form of intolerance of rationalism.

All religions are cu*ts. Trekkies don't get it easy, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Jehovahs etc. shouldn't either.

Religious tolerance is a form of intolerance of rationalism.

Reflexive liberal guilt is the worst form of opression in many societies.

But a very summation Mr Taxi worth closing the thread on I say.

More like Snuffleupagus. Can't capture a still that does justice to its graceful gait.
