Best band of the 90s:
Rene Dif (yes I Googled that) sounds a little like Apache Indian. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Moio5q_1b8o

Very interesting. I might have to listen to some more of that this week.
Ever heard of Chagall Guevara? Similar sound, also very underrated. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MlXWrJAIHo
Ha.

The lead guitarist is now in this much more well-known band:
I think Aqua were loved by all.
I think Ace of Base were also very overlooked.

Hey, it's Stooffer!
Talk Talk. Evidence here:
The whole premise that a band might be underrated is faulty, since it doesn't make any difference what everyone else thinks. You might as well claim your favourite colour is underrated.

So you think the thread should be called 'You should like this band because I really do', correct?
Quote: David Carmon @ May 3 2010, 12:22 AM BSTI would say Roxette
What the deuce? Roxette were never underrated by mainstream radio DJs intent on playing crap.
Quote: zooo @ May 3 2010, 12:23 AM BSTBen Folds Five.
They never really got famous, and they were the best band in the wooooorld.
Also not underrated.

Good stuff.
Quote: Kenneth @ May 3 2010, 9:18 AM BSTAlso not underrated.
Well, they're not widely known, never sold in big numbers and I don't think get much in the way of radio play, so it seems they could have been more successful and appreciated by more people.
That's exactly what I was going to say.
Obviously they're not underrated by people who've heard of them - people don't go around saying they're rubbish when they're not (which is a kind of underrating I suppose). But they never even made the top ten over here, I believe. Talent-wise they deserved to have been more successful.
Wings. The band The Beatles could have been.
Grant Lee Buffalo. They were well respected but bugger all people bought their albums. I love Fuzzy. One of my all time favourite songs.

I'd agree that they got alot of radio play when they had a single out, up to around 1994. That's how I got into them as Atlantic 252 used to bum them.
But after that, especially in the UK they've had no longevity apart from the big ballads like It Must Have Been Love, Listen To Your Heart or Fading Like A Flower.
Other than that you might get someone who knows/ or hear a radio station play songs like The Look, Run To You, How Do You Do! Wish I Could Fly or Joyride. But it's not very often.
For a band who have sold 75 million records they're mostly forgotten now.
Who would know that lead singer Marie had a brain tumour back in 2002 with a 5% chance of survival, or that they're recording a new album, their first since 2001?
