Ban the Burka? Page 2

I don't believe it is really, for a start, it is only a public ban, not a private ban, I believe they can wear them at home should they wish to revert to be being bullied by their males.

This should tell them that our society wants NO ONE to wear them, not just Muslims - I believe the wording of the ban includes all manner of full face coverings, including helmets, but I could be wrong. So it can't be seen as merely a political stance against Islam. I won't be allowed to walk down the road in my helmet and you won't be allowed to walk down the road with a face pack on. Quite right too.

It basically boils down to a security issue. It's impossible to identify someone hidden behind a full body covering.

Well, to a certain extent. But terrorists don't always make it that easy for us to identify them. From what I remember about the 9/11 chaps they did a good job of blending in with everyday civilians.

but it does seem completely out of order and just plain rude to ban an item of clothing a huge number of people wear.

Wikipedia says:

On 29 April 2010, the lower house of parliament in Belgium passed a bill banning any clothing that would obscure the identity of the wearer in places like parks and in the street. The proposal was passed nem con and now goes to the Senate. The BBC estimate that "Only around 30 women wear this kind of veil in Belgium, out of a Muslim population of around half a million."

No, they stood out like sore thumbs. All the more reason that they should have been rounded up before they could act.

No, they stood out like sore thumbs.

In what way? Other than they were a bit brown.

Sore thumbs would be more red surely, and throbbing.

Actually you do go red and throb a bit when you carry out this kind of thing, or so the psychologists say.

Most terrorists do actually display very nervous and unrelaxed looking behaviour that can give them away. Some CCTV cam networks now have a programme in them that automatically alerts nervous looking behaviour, especially someone constantly glancing over their shoulder and moving in a jerky, hesitant way. They are in use at most large airports I believe.

If so, then it sucks that we should live in such a paranoid culture of obsessive surveillance. It would be nice if we were able to move around without Big Brother watching us constantly.

I've never had a sore thumb in my life. I'm very proud of that fact.

Buy a hammer, that's a common factor.

In what way? Other than they were a bit brown.

Post-9/11 investigations of the hijackers show that they acted suspiciously and angrily on many occasions, enough so that they left lasting impressions on the Americans they met.

A quote from the ticket agent who gave Atta and his accomplice their boarding passes:

"I said to myself, 'If this guy doesn't look like an Arab terrorist, then nothing does.' Then I gave myself a mental slap, because in this day and age, it's not nice to say things like this," he said.

Well they didn't stop them so they couldn't have looked that out of place.

You pour more damnation on your secret services with every word!

I'd like to see people wearing sandals and socks banned.
