This is a genuine question. What is it with you Scottish about the English? I just can't understand the constant hatred.

I've not yet had a lobotomy, no.

We ethnically cleansed large areas of Scotland, supressed their culture and some would still consider us an occupying power.

That and we stole Billy Connolley.

Connolly can f**k right off.

As for the rest, it's a bit of a distortion at best, and a feeble "that'll do" excuse at worst.

Hehe! Good old Gordon - he's put his foot in it here!

He is hilarious.

If she is a bigot, then there shouldn't be a problem surely?

a) Whether she is or not, you really can't have the Prime Minister openly branding ordinary members of the public as bigots, especially after just one short exchange.
b) There's been no suggestion in any of the commentary that I've seen, that she actually is "a bigot".

One of those sad dismissive put-downs that the left use to rubbish the opinion of anyone they don't agree with.

Yeah, though it wasn't really openly as such, he thought he was in private. People say silly things, I don't think it should be jumped on too much.

True; but it's still blowing wide open any myth that he respects people who don't share his views wholeheartedly. That's the central issue that people are jumping on.

Gordon Brown has gone up massively in my estimation (although, admittedly, he was starting from a very low point).

Now if he could just get Malcolm Tucker on board, I might even consider voting for him...

It was very 'Thick of It', wasn't it?
Life imitates art.

I'm sure all politicians make derogatory comments about the absolute arses they come into contact with. Gordon was just unfortunate that his comments were caught on microphone.

Unfortunate people don't win elections though!

Sure, it was idiotic for an experienced politician to allow himself to be caught out that way.

It always seems odd that anyone would want to be Prime Minister; considering the amount of hate, bile and ridicule that's thrown at you.

Hate, bile and ridicule that's often out of all proportion to what they deserve.

If by ethnic cleansing, you are referring to the Highland Clearances, that was mostly English educated clan chieftains deciding that they preferred sheep to their more uncouth relatives.

It is true that the Hanoverians attempted to suppress the Highland (Irish speaking) culture, but most of the hostility to the English seems to come from the Lowland (English speaking) Scots, who always regarded the clansmen as savages.

The main reason for wanting the English out seems to be North Sea oil; however the Orcadians and Shetlanders (formerly Norse speaking), in whose waters the oil has been found, would not necessarily regard themselves as Scottish.

And surely Conolly, like all true Scots patriots, lives in Los Angeles?

As someone on Twitter pointed out, we're missing the bigger picture with Bigotgate, Gordon Brown STOLE a microphone!

The curious thing about Gordon is that as Chancellor he was able to keep his head down while exerting an iron grip on Governnment policy - no-one could spend a bean without Gordon signing off their plans. Since has become Primeminister, it has all spun out of control, with Government becoming a free-for-all, and Gordon getting the blame for everything.

For Gordon becoming Primeminister was never about power, it was all about billing.

To be fair, he's not responsible for the global financial tsunami that hit us. And as PM, rightly or wrongly, you're going to become a lightning conductor and get blamed for pretty much everything and anything.
