Unsolicited Sketch Shows???

Hi folks. Got a question.

BBC writersroom explicitly states that they do not accept unsolicited scipts for sketch shows. I can imagine a few reasons why this might be, even tho such shows are often enormously popular.

However, I was wondering: do any companies accept unsolicited "scripts" for sketch shows?

Not many.

Better to get noticed through an open talent contest.

Sitcom scripts exhibit the skills of a writer better,

Are they topical? Have you tried Newsrevue?

They might, as long as you have some sort of track record. But you're better off sending a couple of sketches rather than a whole pilot.

If you have no commissions/ broadcast credits I would concentrate your efforts on A) Writing for existing sketch shows. B) Producing the sketches yourself. Any sort of internet buzz will open a few doors. And most of the bigger production companies now have online development wings. Plus, links are more edible than words.

Popular yes - written by a single person (or partnership) who isn't already known for getting sketches into programmes, no.

Having said that I'd imagine they might still look at it if you had a really strong idea for the sketch show - a proper theme as opposed to just a bunch of sketches. I think it'd have to be pretty amazing though.
