Winston was rather good. Looking forward to River Song and her bumper fun bags.
It's hard to realise just how much better new Who is than Old Who,

Quote: Matthew Stott @ April 17 2010, 7:15 PM BSTReally? I could hear everything fine.
It's the first time I've noticed the music at all. But I seriously couldn't hear a bloody word. It's way too loud.
I liked the coloured Daleks, and the new voice is scarier, I like it.
Not sure how the planes got into space within four minutes, but there we are.
I like the fat bastard Daleks
Exterminate all the pies!

They were Spitfires, in space, shooting lasers at a flying saucer; swallowing all that I don't think you can quibble too much at the logic of the timeframe!

They were very impressive, the old Daleks looked a bit rubbish next to these big fellas.
Quote: Nogget @ April 17 2010, 7:38 PM BSTThe pace was so good though, that maybe to much extra length would have detracted.
This is true.
Quote: chipolata @ April 17 2010, 7:25 PM BSTYou knew they'd win. It's only episode three. I assume they're going to be wheeled out for the finale.
I'll be slightly surprised if they are; if only because Moffat will be aware that they have been used as the final stories big bad a lot. Whatever it's building up to, with the cracks, and Amy not remembering something of the recent history, and the Pandorica (or whatever it was called) opening doesn't feel like it's going to involve the Daleks. Might do though, of course, but at the moment I don't think so.

I honestly didn't notice any sound issues.

Ha!
There has to be SOME logic! All they had to do was mention in passing how they got there.

Maybe it was my TV!

Maybe you've got mucky ears, what have you been shoving in them recently?

A lot of otherwise good modern TVs have crappy sound. Mine does, intolerably bad.
I pipe it all through a hi-fi.

Ha! Nothing that I know of...

Ah, well this is my parents' TV so it's not the newest one in the world.
The music is loud though, yeah.
Best Dalek episode of new who, even better than the brilliant "Dalek" for me. Only slight gripe was Matt's acting when he got angry before the Daleks reveled themselves, quite ropey I felt. Odd, 'cos his angry in the last episode towards Amy near the end was brilliant. But the episode itself was great, and it's fantastic to have the Daleks seemingly back properly this time, if in a slightly different form. And the season arc is starting to take shape, it's all very mysterious. Next weeks episode looks fantastic, river and the weeping angels, how exciting. Shaping up to be a top notch season as suspected.
Quote: chipolata @ April 17 2010, 7:16 PM BSTI'm still not as convinced as others by this series ... not anything we haven't seen countless times before.
Don't you watch EastEnders Aaron? Anyway, in it's own way it did present something very different, a Dalek victory. Blowing up the Earth at the end aside, they achieved what they wanted to, they won. That little bit was a brand new twist to the Dalek-Doctor status quo.

I wouldn't go that far, but certainly for me the best since that one.

Ish. I don't cry if I don't see it. Why?

"Dalek" didn't have Spitfires in space or colour coordinated Daleks though.
I agree in part with the "We've seen it before" criticism, but I just think it was way more polished and much slicker than the previous Dalek episodes, except for the aforementioned one. The tension in the episode didn't come from the doctor saving the world (although the scene when the scientist "became" human to stop the bomb was very powerful), it came from the Daleks returning as devious and as sly as ever and whooping the Doctors ass. Compare this episode with "Daleks in Manhattan" and you'll have all the evidence you need as to why people are saying this series is in great shape.
Victory of the Daleks errors
Does anyone else think the new look daleks should have been introduced to the beats of Groove Armada's "I see you baby, shakin' that Ass" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O6QE20TXCI)
And did anyone else spot the daleks mis-pronounciation of "paradigm", which was repeated moments later by the doctor, although I believe he doesn't know what it means and merely repeated it to impress that Scottish lassie.
Apparently Davros was spotted wearing a digital watch in the "Daleks of ancient Rome" episode which was never aired due to confusion caused by their menacing command "Caesar!"
According to a learned whovian, Dr Who holds the record for most continuity errors in a TV programme.
Spotted any yet?
